I think there is nothing like a log home.I am in the process of having a log home built for myself and wife. It is about 1500 sf with 1000 sf basement.
Pay for the log home but build a big basement. Get more of a bang for the bucks building the basement that has walkout for extra living.

Brcomm0,
what kind of price range does your log cabin go for, (guestimate)
That sounds about what I am looking for.

Thanks!

Total cost turnkey was about 200000. For 1500 sf plus a 1000 sf basement.

Default Log homes

When I was a girl my parents built log homes in upstate New York. We would get the trees via contract from the state. We were allowed only to take the trees they had marked for us. We had to leave the stumps 18" from the ground. We then had an old model T truck with a bed on it to pull logs out of the woods. We loaded them on an old boom truck and stacked them to season for a year. The following year we would scrape and clean them with wire brushes. Then we would build a log home. My parents always owned the property. That's when life was easy. Even though we didn't have a well or septic inside the house yet (Which means we used an outhouse and carried our drinking water from the neighbors) I wouldn't trade that time for nothing. We would wake up in the morning with deer grazing in our front yard. What a life.
My husband and my dream is to return to nature and live in a log home. We will be scouting Tennessee for our dream. Thanks for listening.

I do not live in a log home, but I once waited in a doctor's examination room long enough to build a miniature one out of tongue depressers.

i have a great builder, that is building our Battlecreek log home now. if you would like his information or would like to go see our home (it is dryed in right now) let me know. send me an email. we are very impresed with our builder, and he will build you a beautiful log home! we are very happy that we decided on a log home, and can't wait to move into it full time in 3 years. until then, we will rent it out minimally, mostly to friends. we are in Hawks Bluff, Phase I in Spencer very close to the Fall Creek Falls state park. our builder will definatly build in Cookeville. i dont think it is too far for him to travel. so if you want to see our house, let me know!

Default Log Home Invo

We are looking to build a log home near Spencer, TN. I was happy to find this forum for a great source to share information. I noticed several mentions of Jim "Varna" homes. The correct name is Barna Log Homes. Does anyone have a Barna home experience? Let us know. Thanks.

My wife and I are building a log home in Spencer. We worked 2 years to find the right log home to build. Do alot of research and don't let anyone talk you into there log home. They all kind of beat up on each others companies and the best way to buy is educate and also if you can stay in one of there homes that they have built. Most log home companies just sell you the package, they tell you they build the entire house, but they subcontract the builder who you could get on your own. Send me a private pm message if I can help you in anyway. It is a crazy experience.
