logging industry?
Is there a large timber industry in Tennessee? My husband drives tractor trailer and has been hauling logs here in new york. He really enjoys his work and would hate to have do something else.

There is a significant timber industry in Tennessee. Tennessee is more or less the hardwood flooring capital of the US, and there is a lot of pulp type timber grown in West Tennessee. I'm sorry, I can't tell you any more than that because I'm not that familiar with it. You will see log trucks often out in the rural areas.

You might check with the Bowater paper mill in Calhoun, Tennessee. I surely see plenty of log trucks in the surrounding area.

Tennessee is the nation's No. 2 producer of hardwood lumber, behind Pennsylvania. Last year TN produced approximately 70% more hardwood lumber than NY.

Wayne, Perry, Hardin, Lewis, Lawence counties and pretty much south central TN are major Forestry and Logging areas in which this is the top or major industies. The pay is typically low but so is the cost of living as compared to other areas especially eastern TN.

In west Tn. it's mostly independent & small local owned timber companys with the exception of the recently bought out International Paper Co. with Westvaco their main supplier but most people do not realize how much of the timber industry in Tn. is actually not owned by U.S. holders much like Westvaco, pulp wood or hardwood.
