I've lived in FL for 12 years now originally grew up in a very small town in Northern N.H. and i'm looking forward to getting out of FL but not wanting to go all the way back to the cold N.H. weather. My main reason for leaving FL is the heat in the summer, i miss having the 4 seasons and most of all i miss the quiet country life. Most of Florida is just so fast paced and it's only getting worse. There are rude people down here but there are also nice ones far and few between. I read somewhere above that Floridians are moving to TN only to want what they had in FL and i'm certainly not one of them. I've lived the country life in N.H. and loved it but there was just no work to stay there so i was crazy and just packed up and went south, Way south. Now i have been working from home for 3 years and feel i'm ready to go back to the old days and after visiting TN a few times last year, it reminded me so much of back home in N.H. that it's someplace i would like to live and hopefully fit in. I'll be sure to get rid of my Florida tag quick so nobody will notice me.

I've been ranting and raving for months now about how Tennessee will be taken over by the same folks that ruined Florida. I guess everyone is starting to realize it's true.

I've moved here because I hated the lifestyle and people there. End of story.

These folks coming are not looking for a southern lifestyle. They are riled up about their homeowner's insurance and taxes. They will try to change this place. I know it.

I'm sad to say this, but I can identify these jerks from the moment they open their mouths, and it isn't because of accents. It's their self-centered attitude.

That is very true. I don't mind that people want to live in Tennessee since it kind of validates my feelings for our beautiful state. And there are many things that we have now in Tennessee thanks to people who move here from elsewhere: Mexican restaurants, Italian restaurants, Chinese restaurants. Come to think of it, maybe it's just the food.

Anyway, I hope they really do want to be Tennesseans. I think a lot of the problems in Florida stem from all those Northerners who wanted to turn Florida into some sort of "New Jersey in the tropics." They wanted to be IN Florida but not OF Florida. Does that make sense? They had no desire to become Floridians; they just wanted the cheaper living expenses and warmer weather. They'd move to Florida then mock the natives.

I'm not saying that Northerners don't have redeeming qualities. I read posts from many of our Northerners in this forum who now call Tennessee home, and it makes me glad to be their "friend" (as online friendships go).

I think that if someone moves to an area, it's that person's duty to do the adapting and not the other way around. One of the reasons I left Florida was because I got sick and tired of hearing "Well, back in [insert your Northern state of choice] we did things differently and better." I welcome newcomers to our beautiful state of Tennessee, but they need to understand that we locals like the way things are and do NOT want to be more like the North, thank you very much. And I've found that Tennesseans can be the warmest, most welcoming people when they know that a newcomer is sincerely interested in our area and culture.

Yes! And every so often we get them on here, too. They start whining about stuff and how it should change before they even get here. Makes my blood boil.

Honestly, when I hear a non-southern accent I actually cringe now. About ten percent of the time they turn out to be nice.

On this forum, you do see people that are looking for a southern-lifestyle. The rest either don't know what that actually entails or don't care because they figure they can change it.

I got news for these people, Tennessee is not Florida. You are not about to run off the trailer-living, gun-toting, church-going folks. Maybe they don't even live in a trailer, but they love their neighbor that does!

And don't even think that they are stupid. They will smile and "y'all" you, while they outsmart you.

This is the Volunteer State with a rich tradition of taking up arms to defend their beliefs. I wouldn't mess with them.

I don't want to change a thing in Tennessee, I just want to make some real good friends who can rely on me and I on them and most of all, blend in.

Gee coming from Florida and wanting to move to TN for TN lifestyle, i don't seem welcomed after reading this post. (though other posts are much more welcoming) Just don't classify all Floridians. I'm not originally from FL and i agree with what most is being said but i'm afraid now if I try to get involved with TN and someone finds out i'm from FL, i don't have a chance to be accepted.

I should clarify. I'm a Yankee that lived in Florida and hated it. I didn't move here because my homeowner's insurance got higher, I wanted to live in the "real" south.

My dander is up because on another thread about zoning there is talk about trailers being next to $300,000 homes. How there is no regulation. There McMansion might be devalued by the trailer next door.

Every so often a few come along whining about this. Then I realize that some people have no idea what this area is really about. Or they don't want hunting. Do people understand that it is perfectly legal to shoot their guns on their property?

For sure there is NPR, but do you know how many Christian and country stations are on my local radio dial? That can't be discounted.

People will like you if you embrace their ways, otherwise I would look elsewhere.

Default wanting to move to Tn.

Geez, I am from New Jersey and have posted on this board and people have been very kind. I want to move to Tennesee because it is beautiful and an easier paced life. I wish sometimes just because your from one state that we are not lumped into all same attitude of wanting to "change things".I feel when you move somewhere YOU adapt to their way.As far as making fun of southern peolpe, I am not one of those northerners. We are just looking to relax a little as we age...And found Tennesee a beautiful place to want to live and having been there found the people warm.

I would not be quick to assume people move here and want it to be another Florida. That is over-simplified. Maybe there are some, but there are also those of us who enjoy people with manners, still hold the doors for you, etc. There are rude people everywhere, but I do agree that S Florida has a preponderance of them- and I would NEVER want it to be another Florida here!!!.

Maybe there is a mass exodus from areas due to the economy? I mean where is the accountability? I read from many in Michigan who are moving because industry there has been decimated....Who is causing this? It sure ain't us little guys. This administration is running unchecked in D.C. - we citizens are merely trying to survive.
