We live in the Florida panhandle and are going to be moving to Tennessee this summer. I was very excited before but after reading the posts, I am a little unnerved. Now, my husband and I are not originally from Florida, but have lived here for several years. Going to a new place, I would never dream of trying to change people or their lifestyles. That is something that you research and no what you are getting into before you move to an area. You don't move someplace that you have no idea what life is like. I love southern values, I love the freedom of being a Christian, I love the beauty of the south. That is why we chose Tennessee. Now of course, there are things that I am going to miss about Florida...the beaches. But, I am choosing to move away. I can't complain that I don't have it if it is my choice to leave. And by the way...it is my experience that South Floridians (for the most part) are a lot different than those in the Florida panhandle. The culture in South Florida is so much different. So please don't group all Floridians together.

bbkaren great post. By the way I am from PineBush. Been here 11 years. Came from Long Island. The problem is that PineBush is getting to be like L.I. and that is why we want to move down south. We plan on going in March. We are going to fly out of JFK and land in Nashville. This is a direct flight and the cheapest. We will make our way toward Knoxsville. We are looking for a nice neighborhood possibly overlooking the lakes and close to the mountains. I want to be able to hunt and fish and ride my harley. I just don't know what the prices are ,but from what I am reading they are not cheap. I am hoping to buy a nice 1-2 acre plot to put a modest ranch on it. Some of the prices I see scare me. I mean $200,000 for a piece of property is rather quite high. I know coming from NY that our prices are out of hand,but I looked into NC and forget it. I want to find a nice piece of property $75,000- $100,000 tops. Then build a house on it. That's why we have to go down there to look around . Anyway, it is real cold here and I am getting tired of that too. But the cost of freedom doesn't come cheap.

JMT... It is a small world afterall. Yes it has definately grown in the 6 years i've been here. Just this past week the county just approved a $16,000 impact fee up from $6000 on all new homes but yes, traffic is insane during the day but after 6:00 at night or on weekends, it's dead out on the roads. I just wonder where the people are going during the afternoons to be so crowded out there. Then again, we do have a lot of protected lands in Citrus County so it can't grow too muoh more. Yes, that's not unusual for a price on a trailer down here but good luck trying to get insurance on it. Most of that purchase is going toward the land too not the mobile home. we have several lots in our neighborhood that's been for sale for about a year now. 3/4 acre $50,000 and there's nothing special about it. As i'm looking at property prices in TN, i'm liking what i'm seeing price wise. It's a bargin compared to down here.

I really don't want a retricted gated community. I want the freedom to do what I want with my property, within reason of course. I would like to meet a reputable real estate agent that would have my best interest at heart. Up here there are very few of those. I would like to buy a 1-2 acre plot overlooking a lake and put a modest 4 bedroom ranch with a 3 car garage( for my toys). I have a budget that I have to stay within so I am going to be careful. I heard horror stories that some folks bought property only to find out too late that there were hidden problems, such as low water table, airport fly over,etc...I want to make this our final move and will do everything in my power to make it a safe area for my family. The worst thing to happen will be that I have a hidden problem and then everyone is upset. So, I have to do my homework correctly and efficiently. This includes a good school district for the little ones. For my wife and kids sake I have to be close enough to civilization so that they can have a social life. If it was just me I would go somewhere real rural. But in order to convince the family that this move is going to be good for everyone I will have to compromise . Anyway, if you would be so kind and point in the right direction I will be most grateful Thanks Sal |
