In Morristown and loving it!
Hi!
I've been visiting my SO in Morristown since August 28th. I've actually been considering moving here now. The only two issues that I've had to deal with is the heat/humidity and the food. I thought the south was gonna be a major culture shock but was pleasently surprised. I've tried grits, okra and biscuits (Yet to try biscuits and gravy mind you). And I think I finally have the whole sweet tea thing figured out.
I've been really enjoying myself here and it's a 1/3rd of the cost to live here than Calgary. Tennessee has been growing on me as each day passes. We might even gotten into an ad on TV for Planet Wings heehee, only time will tell!
Anyways I hope to be here permenantly soon!

Good luck with deciding what you want to do .I have been here in Grainger county, not far grom Morristown, there ALL the time!I have yet to try biscuits and gravy ,I grew up where "gravy'was for mashed potatoes and meat, though I am told it tastes differnt. My neighbor reases me all he time. Morristown is a little more"city" than some smaller towns maybe that helps with the culture schock thing, and also where you come from, and what your used to. It is also MUCH less expensive where I came from too.I am learning about foods and things I never imagined in my life!!!!I wish you luck!!!!

That could be it, Calgary has 1,040,000 and some people Morristown appears to have 30,000 roughly. I can relate with the gravy thing, I grew up with it on potatos or meat too. It's kinda nice being in a small city than the huge one that Calgary has become for a change. And the people around here are real friendly. We've taken day trips to Spruce Pine, North Carolina and Knoxville. I also noticed how much people support the Vol's around here, it's like seeing the support for Calgary Flames back home.

Welcome to Morristown!
Hi Zera!
Welcome to Morristown! I have recently moved here and it is WONDERFUL! I grew up in Texas, moved to the SF Bay area for 16 yrs, back to TX, then to AR, to Middle TN, to MS, and now in Morristown. As you can see, I've lived in a few places!
Morristown is WONDERFUL!!! While I think Middle TN is the most beautiful, Morristown has it beat in the PEOPLE! I just LOVE the people here!! I have not met one person that I walked away thinking negatively about. They are genuinely kind, helpful and absolutely delightful to know!
As for the whole biscuit and gravy thing.....you'll have to give it a try just to say you did. My husband loves em!! He'd eat that every morning for breakfast and again at dinner if I'd let him!! When you try it, make sure it's at a small local diner....not a chain like IHOP (they are disgusting there....too much soda in the biscuits).
Again, welcome to Morristown!!

*Giggles* Yeah my SO ordered sliced tomatos at the Wafflehouse last night and put sugar on them. I wasn't sure if it was a southern thing or not but I'd never seen that done before.
And he refuses to go to the IHoP here too Mudda. Says he's gotten bad service every time he's gone there. I've never actually eaten at one yet but maybe sometime Jeff City or something. The first night I was here we stopped at East Tennessee Wings & Grill. Good food there, should be interesting to see now that they've moved to Collage Square. My SO knows the guy that runs it and I guess he's looking for another spot on the west side of town.

Sugar on your tomatoes is a mid western thing. My Dad is from Illinois and every summer we would go there, was the only place I saw people putting sugar on sliced tomatoes and served it as a side dish to dinner. I have yet to see anyone in TN do it, but influence is coming I guess.
Note on the biscuits and gray, it is a white sausage gravy made with milk and flower, not the gravy you think of for on meats. I am SOOOO hooked on biscuits and gravy and sweet tea! Yum. Careful though, there are lots of foods like these here that you will become addicted too!

sugar on tomatoes?
Yup, some people here in Minnesota do it when they eat them whole from the garden.
(I prefer salt )
