My brother and I used to jump on the train when we were kids. Yeah looking back now i think of how stupid we were. We lived next to a huge papermill so the trains were going slow enough as they were at the end of the tracks.

When my husband was a kid in Chicago, he use to jump on the trains to catch a free ride into the city.

Me? I'm too chicken for any of that, even when I was a kid!

Quite a bit of train action, and it was mostly filmed down the street from where I live in Rockaway, NJ.
Your mention about chasing the train reminded me of it.
I haven't seen it but you can bet I will rent it this weekend. I looked it up online and it looks great! I'll be checking out your area (it's filmed down the street literally? from your house?) and you can rent Deliverence to check out mine! ROFL Anyway, thanks for the tip. Next we will be looking into buying an old depot to live in

Default Train routes, model Links

TnB: Seems like East of Nashville Tracks are along I-40. West side of city tracks are along # 70. . . . East part of state I know well they run N.E. along Route #27, good photo spots, also along road #11 and 11E NorthEast section, foothills mtn area Road #411. Enjoy.
. BBK. Ever get invited to Frank SINATRA house, New Jersey maybe Hoboken , guess he had biggest Lionel layout. I use to be a past President of the Hyde Park Station / club in New York right next to the Franklin Roosevelt museum on the hudson river where his Funeral Train came. Here is the LINK to the National Historical Site. "HydeParkStation.com" We had HO wall layout in attic. Poughkeepsie had the 100 year old 212 ft high famous Bridge that burned in late 70's and was suppose to be the GREENWAY -walkway tourist draw, that never happened. I was so pleased to come to Chattanooga and see how a pedistrian bridge with the Engraved Planks was restored into a bikeway.
. My father and uncles all worked on the Delaware & Hudson shops. I set-up the electric layout this Christmas for the 1st in many years.
JmW>. Read in TimesFreePress where the Tourist train route/ weekends will be EXPANDED for 2007 thru Etowah and Bald Mtn LOOP. There Bldg Station is very nice restoration and had BIG 4th of July celebration, in the OVERHILL tourist region.

Yes. Grew up on 10 acres with one of the areas major train arteries just behind it.

Moved away from them when I was twelve and I couldn't sleep for two months. I still miss the sound of trains at night, and that was a long, long, time ago.

What about trains?
Do they run through some of the major cities?

I love hearing the late night distant whistle of a train as it passes through.

Are there any near outer Nashville? How about the rest of the state?

TNBound,I've always loved watching trains since I was a kid and got to go on a few steam excursions.I was hooked!
Trains enter/leave Nashville from all 4 directions as it is a big CSX hub.
Cool place to watch is the line that runs S.E. from Nashville, towards Chattanooga.Basically follows hwy 41.Bellbuckle/Wartrace in Bedford County are good. Also Cowan,in Franklin County, which is at the western side of Cumberland Mountain. It has a railroad museum and there are helpers there that have to help almost every train over the mountain & through the Cumberland Mountain tunnel, which is one of the longest in the east. The helpers work from Cowan on the west to Sherwood on the east side.

Elrod is on a distinguished road
I love trains too. We live a half a block away from the Norfolk Southern line in Albion, MI. There's an Amtrak passing through as I type this! It's the Detroit-Chicago line and there's a lot of freight that goes through as well. I love it.

I doubt there are many passenger trains going through TN these days but there is tons of freight.

Here's a map with all the railroads in America and you can zoom in and find the ones in Tennessee. I have no idea which ones are still active.
