Default Cultural tolerance in Cookeville

I am planning to move to Cookeville but has hesitation about the cultural diverse and tolerance for hispanics; experiences will help to decide.

It's a university town with students from 66 different countries. While Cookeville doesn't have a huge Hispanic community, it does have a couple of Hispanic grocery stores which seems to indicate to me that there are quite a few Hispanics in town.

Neighboring Monterey (11 miles east) has a huge Hispanic presence. Its elementary school is about 1/3 Hispanic.

I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Friend is the pastor at a prominent church in town, his wife is from Mexico, and the family is thought of highly. Acceptance and tolerance are greatly affected by the degree to which a family wants to be accepted and tolerated.

One of my employees is Cuban, and his GF is Cuban. They report no problems other than a few a*****es, who are everywhere.
Cookeville has Hispanics, Orientals, Sub-continent Indians, whites and blacks.
Theres even a Chinesse, Japanese and Indian grocery store!!

Well I'm a Yankee from Chicago and they tolerate me! I am a white guy though.

Cookeville is a pretty progressive city in many aspects (although were are living in the dark ages when it comes to other things like liquor sales).

I haven't heard of there being any racial problems here. We just had our annual fall festival down town a few weeks ago and one of the headlining bands was a Latin band playing all kinds of Latin music. There was salsa dancing and everything. Everyone seemed to love it. We also have numerous Latin grocery stores as well.

I can't promise you that everyone will want to be your best friend but that's anywhere you go regardless of race.

After reading all the posted comments, it seems that there is quite respect to others; for difference ways of thinking and cultural diversity. Respect is something we all deserve.
