I'll take a better picture, tomorrow.
I've wanted people to help me identify these trees, but I didn't want to start a thread.
Thanks tinman!

Taken at Bays Mountain Lake in Kingsport Thurs. afternoon, 10/2. I think most of the reds here are sourwoods:

hiknapster's tree could be a sourwood too. Sourwood is one of the first trees to turn color in the fall, so that would be another clue.

Sorry for the delay. I got a close-up of the tree. Bear in my mind that I have an awful camera. Never buy a HP.

And while I'm at it, this is one of our maples. Notice that it is barely turning, but we have lots of dropped leaves. That is nothing new with our yard. We certainly better like raking.

One of the dogwoods is in the background. The firewood guys says that a hickory is to the left. In the foreground, to the right is a weird tree that has sharp, pointy leaves and berries. I think it is sparse looking and it looks odd in the middle of the yard. Lauren wants to decorate it for Christmas. Ouch!

The one with sharp, pointy leaves and berries might be an American Holly.

The leaf report for the week of Oct 1 is on the Tennessee Vacation website. You can read it or listen to it. It says what trees are starting to turn and where:
Fall for Tennessee -- Weekly Foliage Reports
I noticed some starting to turn this morning when I was at Ft Loudoun State Park but just barely.

This was taken by me near Fort Loudoun on Saturday (10/4). Still green. But I did notice after I made the first post that the trees in Clinton (more north than Vonore where Ft Loudon is located) are just starting to turn.
