I'm still blocked from doing it, too. Those photos are gorgeous.

Is anyone here from up around the Kentucky/Tennessee border? Will be going to the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park in two weeks and I'm hoping it's not going to be too late.

Thanks! The average elevation where I took those is about 1400'.

Yes, the higher & farther north you go, the earlier the color. On average, the temperature drops 3-5 degrees for every 1000' increase in elevation. An increase of 1000' is roughly equivalent to the conditions you'd expect 200 miles north of that spot. That's why many of the trees and plants on mile-high mountains like Roan are similar to what you'd find in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick, Canada.

kamoshika: I went back to Kingsport's Warriors Path State Park today and snapped a bunch of shots. I was astounded at how much the color has exploded this week! Many maples and oaks, including spectacular scarlet oaks, are already fully ablaze. I don't recall ever seeing this much color this early in the fall.

I know. I think it's too early and I have all of these leaf peepin' things scheduled for the last week of the month.

And, it's too sunny!

I like the last photo best of this second round. Is that inside the park, too?

It's on Freeman Rd., about 1/4 mi. from the SE corner of the park. Here's the same scene from a slightly different perspective:

TNstorm, I tried to add to your rep but, alas, I got the "hippies-days" message of 'spreading love around more'. *sigh*

I absolutely love those pics because you've captured my favorite time of evening. When those long shadows throw everything into such detail!! You can see the leaves more distinctly and the ridges, hollows, and coves in the mountains. During the day, the overhead sun blocks the shapes and contours that give such dimensions.

How can anyone looking at these pics posted here NOT think that Tennessee is the most beautiful place???

Thank you again all who posted!!
