Lowest cost of living in TN?
I posted in Chattanooga section, but was advised to post here.
I am a recently disabled person and am in the process of doing research to find a place to live with a good quality of life on a pretty meager SS Disability.
I ride motorcycles and somewhat a country boy.

Any location in Tn. is good and cost of living is about the same, but the farther west in area is a little cheaper than other parts of the state (i.e. gas, grocery, rent) really only your choice for the type of surroundings you are seeking?

I think this will depend on how much you have to spend on a home or renting. There are many smaller towns that are not that expensive. In terms of a good quality of life, what do you like to do and how close do you want to be to shopping, etc.?

That is the great thing about Tennessee - many great areas and the cost of living is generally low as opposed to other areas in the country

What are you looking for when it comes to quality of life? What kind of weather? Shopping? Movie theaters? Fishing?
Without knowing how you qualify quality of life, here are some areas of Tennessee that have low cost of living compared to the rest of the state that you might want to investigate:
On the Cumberland Plateau:
Fentress County
Morgan County
Pickett County
Scott County
In East Tennessee:
Campbell County
Hancock County
Polk County
Unicoi County
In Middle Tennessee:
Clay County
Jackson County
Macon County
Wayne County
In West Tennessee:
Pretty much everywhere except Shelby and Madison counties

Northwest TN has a low cost of living but it's almost impossible to find a decent paying job unless you have a good education.

You might want to consider Cookeville. The area is considered one of the lowest cost of living in the country. Plenty of country but it not so small that you don't have a lot of amenities. Also, Tennessee Tech is there so there will always be something do as far as Arts/Theatre/Sports if that's what your looking for. Also, Nashville is only a little over an hour drive, Knoxville and Chattanooga are about 2 hours away.

Van Buren county in middle TN is extremely affordable. And gorgeous. And friendly. My husband is disabled too and it's where we are. We love it.

My ex brother in law lives in Bristol and is disabled. He does just fine there with his limited income.
