Cream City soda fountain
I can't remember who, but someone in here wondered if there was an ice cream store in downtown Cookeville under the big old neon Cream City Ice Cream sign. Well, I was in Cookeville yesterday and son of a gun, an old timey soda fountain has just opened in that building. Of course I didn't have my camera, but this pic of the inside is in today's Herald-Citizen:

And here are some pics of the outside:
The soda fountain is in the building on the right, the one with the glass blocks:

Oh, an old-fashioned ice cream parlor. Wish I lived closer.

Hi guys,
I no it's been a while since anyone has posted but I wanted to let anyone who was interested no that- that said Ice cream and soda fountain shop will be reopened in the next couple of weeks by my husband and I, we plan to have at least 30+ old style glass bottled soda's, we'll also be making all the old favourites, Rootbeer floats, banana splits, cherry, lemon, lime, vanilla cokes, we'll also be serving ice cream and European pastries and handcrafted chocolates,...
My husband fell in lust with the 1940's soda fountain that the previous owner had, as the West Side is an historical part of Cookeville he really wanted to keep that piece of history, his mother worked in the original Cream City Ice Cream shop and is also a native from Cookeville, (He was born in Nashville) so the building is quite sentimental to us.
So please do come and see us, we'll be open around Thanksgiving.

Im so glad to hear that. I will be sure to bring my grandchildren. We may just have to make it a weekly activity. They always enjoy hanging out at the railroad museum and a trip to cream city would be the icing on the cake. Maybe we will see you there JMT.

That would be fun to see you and your grandkids there 2mares!
I remember the old Harris Drug soda fountain in Cookeville. My parents (born during the Depression) always loved going there. It was a sad day when Harris retired, closed the store and sold it to the Methodist church which then tore it down to build a church addition. (Well I'm sure it wasn't a sad day for the growing church.)
2mares, do you know if the soda fountain in the Cream City building is the same one that was in the old Harris drug store?

Oh I'm sorry, for some reason I assumed you were a native to the Cookeville area. Harris Drugs was on Broad where the Methodist church annex now stands (the one that's connected to the main church via an overhead walkway). It closed in the mid 80s or so.
