The lake is beautiful, and you're not only 30 minutes from Knoxville, but you're also only a few minutes from Harriman and Rockwood, which have decent shopping, and restaurants. Furthermore, you're right next to Midtown, which while limited in shopping and places to eat, is home to the Midtown Drive-in, which is a big hit through the summer.

Cookeville has no lakes? Huh?
Cookeville Boat Dock
And in Cookeville's city limits:
Cookeville City Lake
Cane Creek Lake

LOL, I was speaking figuratively.
I don't know why you have a vendetta against any city not called Cookeville. Anyone can take a look at a map and realize that you're not going to be enjoying many if any water sports in Cookeville. There are private ponds in Cumberland County that are the approximate size of Putnam's lakes.
Cumberland County has more than twice the water area of Putnam, and in Cumberland County, communities are built around the lakes, and you can actually build a house on a lake.
Furthermore, Roane County (Kingston) has ten times the water area that Cumberland County has.
No need to get butt-hurt because Cookeville wasn't named the king of water. I'm sure people up north get a good laugh watching someone squabble over these ponds.

When I was their last year I got into a discussion on the lakes and large ponds and ask whats considered a pond and what is considered a lake......the local told me that a pond is less than 750 feet long and less than 500 feet wide.... If larger,it's a lake....... that's what I was told by a local.

Now now, there's no need to get nasty just because you were proven wrong. You said "Cookeville has no lakes" to which I responded that there are. You didn't say "Cookeville has no lakes where you can build homes." And there are lakes in Cookeville, not just ponds.
As flattered as I am that you've read all 5,400+ posts I've made, I have to correct you. I've recommended a dozen other Tennessee towns and cities besides Cookeville. I've even recommended Crossville, and I've also recommended against Cookeville when appropriate. Just so you know.
I've recommended Kingston in this forum long before you came around. However, given the poison spilled into Watts Bar Lake by TVA a few months ago, I wouldn't recommend Kingston again until that mess has all been cleaned up.

Nasty??? Not even close. Furthermore, let's not forget that you're the one who came out with sarcasm laden post complete with a picture of a lake that doesn't even reside in the same county as Cookeville, and a few more of lakes that are the size of farm ponds. Yeah, you proved me wrong.
I was speaking figuratively. Your posts appear educated at times, so I would assume you know what that means, or do I need to clarify each figurative expression and/or sarcasm before I post???
Seriously, if you said Crossville had no shopping, I would have understood that. In comparison to many places, it makes perfect sense. I'm surprised I have to go into this much detail. I guess this is the part where I'm supposed to get butt-hurt and show you pictures of Crossville's little malls and the malls of surrounding areas.
Furthermore, I've read enough of your posts to know that your main purpose here is to pimp Cookeville. If you're not, and YOU actually do KNOW that Cookeville isn't any kind of competition when it comes to lakes, then why did you get so upset about my previous post???

Nice quiet friendly small town in East Tennessee
If you want to live where you have beautiful views if mountains and beautiful lake views, then you should check out Bean Station Tennessee. It follows Cherokee Lake, with beautiful homes for sale in this area, at very reasonable prices. Before you decide on a city in East Tennessee, I really suggest checking out Bean Station.

Is TVA still messing with the lake levels on Cherokee Lake ? As a boy in the 1950~1960 the lake levels would be drastic flucation all year long...
