Default Leaves near Athens

I was wondering if the leaves are falling in the Athens area. I see the temps are well into the 30's at night. I have some wood cutting to do and would like to do so with the leaves down.

Thanks,
Neal

Hi Neal,

My wife and I drove through Athens on Monday on our way to Etowah to take the train ride through the Hiwasse River Gorge. Yes, the leaves are falling in Athens, but we saw less fall color in the Athens area than we did further north in Tennessee. You will probably have to wait another 1 to 2 weeks if you want to do your wood cutting after all of the leaves are down.

Default Peak Today

JG: Any Pics of the Train ride. / Have not officially done that yet .?
NK: Peak colors here in Dayton today. Last warm day & rain forecast for Thursday , that usually knocks more leaves down . Some Hickory trees dropped leaves few weeks ago , stgressed with 2nd year drought .
.. Some very big trees though still have some green.
...Driveway pic today .

Things are in full color in Athens/Etowah area right now. The leaves are gone from trees like the Sycamore, but the hickory, maple, oak etc. are in peak color and still on the tree. Some leaves have fallen. I expect if we get rain today, more will fall.

East in the mountains, near the Cherohala are in peak color, the leaves are gone in the top of the Smokies and atop the Cherohala Skyway.

Here are some pics taken yesterday around my house and I live between Athens and Etowah.
