I had lunch at the Algood Diner yesterday. Good home cooking. Had the fried chicken, mashed taters and gravy and pinto beans and cornbread.

There is the Villiage Kitchen on 10th Street that is good.

Im sure there are more, those are just close to me so thats where I eat. JMT should chime in soon.

I sent southernfried a DM about this a couple of weeks ago, but I forgot about Algood Diner. I think I mentioned Village Kitchen on 10th. I also mentioned Dipsy Doodle out on West Broad. I also mentioned the O'Connor Fish House between Cookeville and Sparta off Hwy 111. I think it's at the exit with the airport. Have you heard of it?

I think I've heard that Cup & Saucer in Monterey is supposed to be good, too.

I was sad to see that East Side Cafe lost their lease, but I don't suppose they reopened in a different location?

OneKEighty is on a distinguished road
Maddie's Place on W. Broad Street, just west of the triangle has great food at very reasonable prices. Portions are ginormous. I usually eat at least one meal there every day (except Sundays when they aren't open). Unfortunately, like a lot of meat & 3's, they are only open for breakfast and lunch. Only downside is the lack of adequate parking, but don't let that discourage you - it's worth the hassle.

That place sounds great!! I'll have to try it next time I'm in Cookeville for a Ralph's Donut run which will probably be one day next week, whatever day Great Harvest has its sourdough bread available.

That all depends on the business owner, location and food. The restaraunt business is fickle.

Yup, Great Harvest is awesome!! I drive 100 miles from Knoxville to Cookeville to stock up on their sourdough bread, and I've got a buddy here in Knoxville who does the same thing.

2mares is right on as always. The restaurant business is very fickle. There used to be a restaurant in Cookeville called the Blue Ribbon Cafe. It was run by some ladies who won a bunch of blue ribbons at various fairs for their desserts, so they took those recipes and opened a restaurant. I ate there several times, and it was always packed. But here we are 10 years later and the restaurant isn't around anymore. I have no idea what happened. Maybe they lost their lease, or maybe business went down, or maybe they just got tired. I don't know.

That fish house I talked about earlier was opened by some Mississippians who relocated to Cookeville but missed those great steak & seafood (usually catfish) buffets that are everywehere in Mississippi. They took over the lease of a vacant building just off a major highway, and the place is wildly popular. They don't even advertise.

So if you have a good concept, good food, reasonable prices, good management and a good location, you'll probably be successful. Take any of that out of the equation and you might not be successful.

Good luck!
