Oh, I wasn't kidding. I'm a contributor myself. The Nature Conservancy has also helped to save a lot of natural areas.

You are so right......I lived in So Florida and than the panhandle and it is just as you described. Property taxes are horrible, the pay stinks and it's HOT!!! Why suffer? We are also trading the beach for the mountains because we are tired of living in a place that does not offer the family much and you can't go outside between the months of May and October because of the heat and bugs. We are like little hermits in the summer and we just don't want to do it anymore!!!

But at least we will have pretty mountains to look at. That's more than I can say for the nasty beaches in FL. I am tired of looking at very large butts in skimpy bathing suits. At least cover up the dimples with white tanning lotion for Pete's sake!!

The name of this thread is "So many moving to Tennessee, what is the effect?"
I'm starting to thinking Florida.
I told my mother today that I was moving to Iowa.

You want to hunt and/or fish more often? OH YEAH!!
You want to be a part of a church community lifestyle? (meaning your religious institution is more than a building where you attend services once in awhile - it is also an avenue to socialize and do good deeds in the community)? ABSOLUTELY!!
You want to celebrate traditional religious holidays like Christmas, for example, or patriotic holidays like Memorial Day or 4th of July beyond having a day off from work or going to sales at the stores? (parades, events)?
GOT ANY HANUKKAH OBSERVERS THERE?
You want to hear more country, bluegrass, gospel or blues music than you hear now? You want to learn some southern dances? I'M GAME!
The idea of eating traditional southern dishes or something you've caught or shot appeals to you? AS LONG AS IT'S ORGANIC, I WILL EAT IT!
You want to spend more time with your ATV, racing or truck? Or, you are looking to buy one/participate in related activies/events? CAN'T WAIT!
You want to belong to some group after you get to Tennessee that has to do with nature and/or nature related sports (hiking, rafting, birding, etc.)? LOVE HIKING....JUST CAME BACK FROM A 6 MILE HIKE WITH LLAMAS AND LOVED IT!
You think a person's property is his to do with as he pleases? AMEN!
You like to swim in lakes and/or swimming holes? BETTER THAN THE BEACH!
You like the school rules, the school curriculum, the school activities more than the place you left? I HOMESCHOOL MY KID SO ALL IS THE SAME TO ME!
You want to marry a southern man or a southern woman raised in Tennessee or have friends who are Tennessee natives? I AM 1/8 CHEROKEE...DOES THAT COUNT?
You want the town you are looking at, to stay exactly like it is now and not looking at the town for what it could be once more transplants arrive? I COME FROM A SMALL "BEACH" TOWN AND WANT TO MOVE TO A SMALL "MOUNTAIN" TOWN.

Hanukkah? My daughter comes home and in her backpack is Christian church notices. I've had several the past few days. It's the end of the school year. The churches want to get in their end of the season adverts.
We don't celebrate Halloween.
Christmas is huge, including the big nativity scene in the school.
Food, as long as it organic? Tried deep-fried. Heck we deep fry Twinkies and pickles here.
I LIKE IT. I LIKE IT A LOT.

Cold doesn't bother me.
It was funny when I told my mother I was moving. She had a small fit. I guess she doesn't want to spend her "golden years" in the flatlands. I really don't want to face MORE tornadoes, though.
I honestly have no idea where I am going.
