LOL. That is correct, and this Yankee isn't even living in TN yet.

Having lived in Miami most of my life, I have seen how more people moving in has caused more problems. It doesn't really matter if they were southerners, northerners, latinos, Caribbeans; the problems were caused just because there were too many people. Too many people trying to drive somewhere. Too many children in the classrooms. Too many new developments for the new people. Too many greedy people. Too many criminals.
I left Miami and its problems when I retired from the Miami-Dade Public Schools. I moved to a small town in east central FL (Volusia County), a town of less than 18k people. Then, the greedy politicians started wanting to "increase the tax base." They talked about "smart growth." There really is no such thing as smart growth. More people = more problems.
Four bodies have been found in Volusia County in the past 2 weeks. When I moved here in '98, people left their car doors unlocked. No more.
I, like almost everyone else on this forum, want to go to a place where there are fewer people. Because my parents were born in the south and were honest, hard-working people, I decided I wanted to move to one of the southern states. I also want to move fairly close to a college/university because one gets a little more political diversity and cultural events.
I first looked in the Tri-Cities because of the mountains nearby. Then, I read that there may be air pollution problems in the Tri-Cities, especially Kingsport.
What I really want is a relatively small city/town that has all four seasons. When I lived in MD, there seemed to be only 2 weeks of fall & 2 weeks of spring, with the rest of the year being either hot & humid or cold & freezing. Is there a place that has a real spring and a real fall and bearable summers? Cookeville appeals to me, but I'm afraid it's going to be too hot.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

Galena, Cookeville area sounds great for you. This past summer was unusual to say the least. Crossville is a bit cooler in the summer.

What is the effect? The effect is that the Tennesee natives are moving West and out of Tennessee! I work in a job where I serve the public, and I notice it when someone has a southern accent way the heck out here in Montana. I have to ask them where they're from, and on almost a daily basis people tell me they have moved here from Tennesse and North Carolina because "all these people" are moving to Tennessee and North Carolina! If you enjoy being around other Floridians and Niortherners, great, but if you think you're going to get "southern hospitality", I'm afraid all the true southerners are leaving for wide open spaces somewhere else! (Oh well, look out, here comes "damage control" any minute now.)

Well, montanamom, I guess that makes Montana just like all of the other states in the Union. Folks running out of them like fleas on bath day and other folks swarming in like something was free!
I have said it before and I'll say it again - it sure is a good thing that we are all looking for something a little different than the next guy in line. Otherwise, we would be crowded together so tight you wouldn't be able to fall down if you wanted to.

I agree. Besides if you go there, we won't get to meet when I move to TN.
Stay in Tennessee.
