Default Info about Surgoinsville,TN.

Hi Folks!
We are going to be buying a parcel of land between Surgoinsville and Rogersville, TN. Closer to Surgoinsville than Rogersville. We have been looking for months now, from Roan Mountain to Greeneville, TN. and everything in between. This really seems to be right. Quiet and private, on a dead end road off a dead end road, yet only three [3] mile off 11W ! A sub-division but not a gated community and it does have some building restrictions, which is what I was looking for. Not the biggest parcel we looked at but it is a very nice five [5] acre lot on an approved county road! High ground, wooded and softly sloping to the road.
Wondering if anyone can give us additional info about the area. I will need to have a well dug, a septic system installed and some lot work [construction grade entry road] in the beginning. Can anyone recommend contractors, who are trustworthy and responsible. Any information would be most appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Don't know anyone in Surgoinsville, but it is a beautiful area. Not much talked about around here.

I will have to say that my best information about contractors has always come from longtime residents of the area. Once, a realtor that we were renting from recommended a contractor, and the result was great. Another time, we got a referral from our pastor, and that experience was also very enjoyable.

Just make sure that they are licensed and insured, that's a good sign that they are legit.

Also, spring for the drilled well as opposed to a bored well. Less chance of contamination, along with a much lower probability of it ever going dry.

Hello and thank you for the specifics. Could you go a little further and detail the difference between a "bored well" and a "drilled well" please?
Thank you again.

A bored well (also called a "dug" well) is usually 24-36" in diameter, with a concrete pipe or tile for a liner, and are usually only deep enough to hit the first available water. They are so shallow that they are much more susceptible to groundwater contamination, and of running dry due to water table fluctuations.

The benefit is that they are cheap.

A drilled well is installed with a steel casing to prevent contamination, and are usually much deeper to get a reasonable and constant supply of water. They are usually 4-6" in diameter. Obvious benefits here, but they are more expensive than bored wells.
