Default Where in Jackson should I live?

I will be starting a job in a few weeks in Jackson, but I really haven't picked a place where to live at yet. I'm looking for an apartment, because buying a house is not an option since i will be just graduating from college, and I'm not sure which, if any, apartment complexes I should avoid living at. From what I've seen the safest places to live are all north of 40. Is this true?
I've lived in other places that have crime problems, York,PA, Baltimore, MD, and Myrtle Beach, SC and they all have obvious places to be avoided as well, is Jackson likewise?

Try to stay out past Oil Well and before Old Humboldt on the right of 45 north, that is the nicest & newest complex in the general area. Just stay away from the area on the other side of 45, its went down in recent past. Lastly the Cherry Grove area is still pretty nice and its back behind Union University. All in all Jackson is a safe, mild small-big town.

Good luck!

North Jackson is the best bet. Stay close to where kbg said in the post above. Unfortunately, crime is growing here in Jackson. There is a crime task force looking on to how we can solve this problem - I believe it's a case of Jackson growing too fast for the police force - IMHO, I believe we need a larger law enforcement force. Just my opinion.

Keep in mind that it's a more expensive on that side of town, but a lot closer to shopping, grocery, hospital, etc... You'll be close to Union University which has plenty of great higher learning ops (if you're thinking of going for a MS).

The public school system is not very strong - many people opt for private schools - the private school pop is bursting so much so that there are new private schools every year & the ones that existed had to build larger buildings! But you won't have to worry about that for a while.

BTW - we are looking to move out of Jackson & I've lived in Washington, DC, San Antonio, TX, Clovis, NM and husband grew up in Memphis - so we know/share your concern about crime!

Good luck
