MURFREESBORO, Honest woman finds $97K in restroom, returns it.
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - A Murfreesboro woman says she returned $97,000 she claims to have found in a Cracker Barrel restroom, but police said Tuesday they have no report of the find. Billie Watts, 75, told The Daily News Journal that she discovered the money inside a tapestry bag hanging from a hook on a stall door last Thursday.

I'm a good person... However... if I found $97k in a bathroom.. I'd pad my pockets, tuck in my shirt and fill it up, pay my bill and RUN out the door with glee...

I guess I'd have to return it too...but man, would that be hard. I don't think my conscience would allow me to keep it.

I'd definitely try and find the owner, but I sure wouldn't complain if they wanted to give me a reward! Seriously, no amount of money would be worth having stealing on your conscience.

I do find it odd that neither the police nor the restaurant have any knowledge of this. I mean who told this story?

I found $75 at the entrance of Disney World once. I looked down after entering the park and there it was, crumpled up on the ground. I picked it up and sure thought about keeping it. It looked like a kids money all waded up, like it was in his or her pocket. I didn't want to ruin some kids day in the happiest place on earth lol! so I turned it in. My husband said, no one will even come and claim it, figuring nobody would ever turn it in. Well, he was right. I had forgotten all about it, when 6 months later, a check came in the mail for the money. No one had claimed it. I still felt like I did right thing. I tend to believe that when you deliberately do the wrong thing, it bounces back to bite you in the behind somehow. Maybe not right then, but it will.

Since I work for a financial institution, my first thought was "except for drug dealers, what kind of idiot carries almost $100K around in a bag!".

Sometimes older people will do something like that.
I read somewhere that the bills were thousand dollar bills which are no longer in circulation. Billie Watts said the owner of the money sold her home and everything in it? When? How could she have bills no longer in circulation unless she sold her house many years ago.

You are a good person! Good for you.
I could never keep something else I found either. The guilt would eat at me forever, money is just not worth that, don't care how much it is.
Now winning the lottery....wouldn't feel a BIT if guilt over that one, bring it on! hahahhahha

Thank You! Guilt can make you do the right thing too! LOL! For me it's fear of payback. It would have come back to haunt me,if I kept it.
It didn't work the same way for me recently, however, I lost a $2k tennis bracelet somewhere at work. No one ever turned it in. I'm sure they just said "Merry Christmas to me" when they found it.
