Hello I am thinking about relocating to tn. My parents just moved to Crossville tn. I am deciding between crossville and cookeville. Can anyone give me good information for both theses places also and good apartment places thats cheap but not tacky.... My boyfriend and I are in our mid 20s looking to start a family in a couple of years. We need to right now have a place to save and start to build. I am a medical adminstation assistant I am wondering also how the pay is out there. I know theres many hospitals and doctor offices all over. My boyfriend is a Chef and theres always restruants around. Please give me as muhc information as you can. I tried looking things up online but it only gives so much infomation.

Both towns are growing quickly and are popular retirement areas. Crossville is more popular as a retirement area, while Cookeville is more popular with younger people.

Both towns have large hospitals although Cookeville's is larger and just completed a huge building project which doubled its size.

There are also a LOT more restaurants in Cookeville than Crossville. Cookeville also has a lot more shopping. While Crossville has a Wal-Mart and KMart, Cookeville also has JCPenney, Sears, Belk, Kohl's, Sam's Club, TJMaxx, and a host of other national retailers that Crossville doesn't have.

The bad economy has hit Tennessee, with Cookeville and Crossville not being spared. However, the unemployment rate is lower in Cookeville than in Crossville, and Cookeville has lost fewer jobs than Crossville.

Being younger, you might enjoy Cookeville more. Being a college town Cookeville is a fairly young city. It's not a party school, so you don't need to worry about that. The schools in Cookeville are ranked considerably higher than Crossville's schools and are much better funded. Schools in Crossville opened weeks late this year because they didn't budget enough money.

Cookeville is closer to lakes and is closer to Nashville. Crossville is closer to Knoxville. You might like being closer to Nashville, I don't know.

Since your parents live there maybe they can offer more insight. Others in this forum will probably tell you that Crossville is nicer. But I like Cookeville better and think that a young couple in their 20s would like it better.

You can always count on JMT for great information. I agree with JMT's assessment of both cities. Cookeville is a larger town and offers more opportunity for both you and your boyfriend. My wife and I were there about 6 weeks ago and drove around much of both Cookeville and Crossville. While Crossville is a nice town, we still prefer Cookeville. There have been many pictures of Cookeville posted on this forum. If you do a search for "Cookeville pictures," I'm sure you will find many threads with pictures. My wife and I liked the Cookeville - Crossville area so much that we will be retiring in the area in about 6 years. I recommend that visit the area to see for yourself.

tiffy099.... Crossville is beautiful place for retirees...... Cookeville is youngish college. Most apartments are for the young college people. Set your self up a bogus e-mail address with Yahoo. This way you can filter who and whom you contact. If you write too the Chamber of Commerce on a relocation package they will send you everything about both places. They have maps of the city, but ask for a county map Crossville is Cumberland County and Cookeville is Putnam County. The links are below for both.
