I live about 90 miles east of Sevierville, and let me tell you something: You will LOVE Sevierville! From shopping to dining to entertainment to incredible attractions all over, Sevierville is one of the most enjoyable places to live in the world and does not have ridiulously high cost-of-living expenses. A small warning, however...the Knoxville area (Maryville, pretty much all of Sevier County, Blount County) has HORRENDOUS schools and is swarming with tourists. Aside from overcrowded schools and incredible tourism, everything else is...perfect, almost surreal...

Hey there bikernut69, I've been asking the same questions for months. If you go to page 2 on here and look for the post- "Anyone from Sevierville area..help please!" , you'll find lots of good info from different people. From what I've heard, the schools are supposed to be good (read the posts). When we went back in April, 2 people I spoke with had there kids at Pigeon Forge Middle and High School. They both love the schools! And if you look at the stats online, they don't seem that crowded. My mom actually toured the middle school for me, and said it was very nice. The people in the office were wonderful!! So personally, if we end up in that area, I'll be driving my kids to Pigeon Forge. (As long as you're in the county, you can choose the schools.) Good luck to you!

Default Traffic

I don't know what it is like to live there, but the times i have been in seiverville the traffic was terrible and was told by many that this is how it is. Pretty place to visit, but if you want to sit in traffic all day not a place to live.

We have been to the area three times now and plan to go back around Easter. My husband has already been offered a job, he is a heavy equipment operator, you can check for housing and jobs online at The Mountain Press. Sevier County's and the Smokies' Daily Newspaper. which is the local paper for Sevier County. There is alot of tourism in the area and yes the traffic can be conjested from time to time. There are so many jobs available it just depends on the type you want. There are several dinner theaters, along with Dollywood, as well as time share resorts that are almost always hiring. Lets not forget all the hotels, cabins, etc. that are looking for people, too.On top of that there is construction work due to the growing areas there. You would be just a short trolley ride from Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg where there are many more oportunities.Yes there are trolly stops everywhere for less than a dollar you can go where ever you want within those three towns and never have to drive your vehicle! So therefore the traffic issue is kind of mute.I hope I was of some help, the schools I'm trying to find out about as well. Good luck. There are so many places for your family to go to you will never have a dull weekend like the ripley's aquarium, puttputt it is amazing, my Grandson loved it there.

Congrats on your husband's job offer, Judi. Is that company hiring any heavy equipment mechanics? I so want to live in E. TN, but at this time looks like its going to be the state that borders TN and starts with a G. LOL
I agree on the trolley, saves wear and tear on your vehicle and yourself.

A small note for posterity, though I know this post is very old. Maryville's (and Oak Ridge's, and even some of Knoxville's) schools are actually some of the best in TN, judging by a range of factors (money spent on students, teacher pay, value-added score increases)...

I have lived in Sevierville for 17 yrs, from Toronto [born], and It is a relaxed, cheaper way of life; weather good in winter, and tourists are very apparent in May to Oct. But you learn the back roads and they spend their money, which gives all a job. Very fun and beautiful. Beats almost anywhere I have been to in the south. #1 in my books. Great shopping and grocery stores, and restaurants. And the schools in all 3 cities are wonderful.
