Yeah 6 hours is a bit of a stretch, but it's not completely out of the question. It's about 440 miles from Nashville to Mobile AL, and that's a straight shot down I-65. From Nashville to Destin FL is about 460 miles. It would be hard to do it in 6 hours but not impossible.

Nashville is better to me career wise, but I would move back to eastern Tennessee if offered a decent job. Although I never lived in Knoxville, I am originally from northeastern Tennessee and like that part of the state better. However, I have relatives in Knoxville so I am familiar with area. I just couldn't find an accounting job in Knoxville so I ended up in Nashville.
Nashville is too busy for me. Driving can be a challenge at times too. Driving in Nashville 10 years ago didn't seem as fearful as it does now. Knoxville has their Nascar wannabes as well, but Nashville adds an aggressive edge I don't see in eastern Tennessee. Interstate 81 is tranquil compared to Interstate 65.
Anyway, good luck!

It really depends what you're looking for. I'm familiar with both the Knoxville and Nashville areas (having lived in both).
Nashville has more of a big city vibe. You definitely have more variety here. Much more variety as far as restaurants, shopping, and entertainment are concerned.
The only thing I miss about the Knoxville area (with the exception of family and friends, of course) is the mountains. But the great thing about Nashville is you're in the city and just a few minutes down the road it's beautiful countryside!

Could someone actually list behaviors and attitudes they classify as "conservative"?

It takes me about 14 hours to get from Knoxville to the beach but that's 'cause I get a very late start and stay overnight in Colombia SC. It takes about 6 hours to get home, maybe a little longer if I stop in the mountains and sit by a creek. It's 350 miles.
I prefer the atlantic Ocean because of the waves plus there's the fringe benefit of visiting Charleston SC.

Six hours? That's good to know. I was going to go to Ocracoke Island, NC, this year, but health issues got in the way. I'm dying to go to Charleston. Do you stay at Folly Beach?
I love the Atlantic. It does for me what a creek does for you. It makes me whole.
Besides, I've had my fill of The Gulf.
