Default Lewisburg and surrounding areas??

We are thinking of relocating from Southeastern NC. My dh is looking at a job in Lewisburg. What is it like? We have three young girls, but homeschool. We wold like an area that is somewhat rural and relatively inexpensive, but nice and safe. We like a small town feel with being able to easily commute to a larger city. We would most likely rent to begin with. Any info on Lewisburg and surrounding areas would be great.

thanks
Brandei

Wow! I'm from Lewisburg! Didn't think anyone was thinking about moving there. My wife and I left lewisburg 11 years ago to move to Tampa and now are actually dying to move back...somewhere to Tn.
My younger sister homeschools her kid (12) as well although I don't think the schools are all that bad. My parents and my wife parents live in the country there in Lewisburg and I think back how bored I thought I was but now wish my kids were living the good country life.
There are alot of churches in town and most are Baptist...good and bad. But I'd take these folks over the unhappy people here in Tampa. At least people in Lewisburg are much more friendly. I guess this happens when you collect 300,000 people together. I can't think of crime in Lewisburg, although I'm sure it happens.
Nashville is 50 miles away on highway 31a. You can do everything you want in Nashville. The thing that I didn't like in Lewisburg is there isn't any lakes nearby. The nearest is over an hour away...Tim's ford. Awesome lake.
Employment is abundant in Lewisburg as many factories support the nissan plant and others in the area. Everyone is moving to Murfreesboro, Tn. Try there. I'd say try the north Alabama area also...it's even cheaper and land is abundant. Land in Tn isn't that cheap anymore, but you can't beat the no state income tax!
hope this helps....rob

Thanks for your insight into the area. Are their any communties convient to both Lewisburg and Nashville. I was thinking of Spring Hill. I would like to be close enough to Nashville, to shop, go to museums etc. But out enough to have the small town feeling.

Spring hill is now developed 'cause of the Saturn plant there, but for schools and convenience...it's the place. Although you wouldn't necessarily have to live within spring hill city limits and live out in the country and be right off i65, which would be a short trip to nashville and the cool springs area (awesome nice place south of nashville)
Some small (less than 1000 folks) areas around Lewisburg...Culleoka, Belfast, cornersville, but these are very small farm-like areas. I think one of the members of the band black crow still live down in cornersville! My dad still says he'd love to see us move to Tullahoma, tn. It's kinda close to everything. Huntsville, al is right across the line, and the lakes best of all. Also Arnold air force has a very small base there.
Go up and check out the areas. I don't think you'll be disappointed. I think the people are all the same...nice and friendly.

Lewisburg, TN is OK. I moved here from Murfreesboro, even though Murfreesboro is growing like crazy I really like their county schools better. We go to CHES and it is awlful!!!! When you hear of "home grown" (that is where if you don't come from here then you are an outsider) and your kids are treated like one. I have two, one goes to FHS now, and I am not at all inpressed with their teaching. They are unorganized and way behind the times. The principal, Delk @ CHES, says he likes it this way. I really don't see how this helps the students. We are probably going to home school because of the lack of education that school has and the lack of ambition. Their are people on the school board that are "friends" so nothing ever changes.

Petersburg TN. Just south of Lewisburg. 10 homes are about to be built here in the 250k-500k range with 5 acre lots. Chapel Hill is a neat little town north of Lewisburg and is even more convenient to Nashville than Lewisburg is. Spring Hill is like every other town in Williamson County, bursting at the seams. Depends on what you want. IF you want the true secluded country lifestyle you're better off in Marshall or Lincoln counties. If you want to be in the thick of the suburban lifestlye then anywhere in Williamson County is the place for you...Franklin, Thompson Station, Spring Hill. College Grove in Williamson County could be the exception. It still has the small farm town feel...for now. There are a lot of farmers over there that will die off in a few years and those farms will be sold for development as well. Northern Bedford county is worth a look as well in places like Eagleville, Rover and Unionville. All convenient to Murfreesboro and Nashville.
