Smile Hohenwald, TN

My husband and I are retired, living in upstate New York. We are thinking of relocating to Hohenwald. Can anyone out there give us some pro's and con's, and any other info on the area? Thanks,

It's home to the Elephant Sanctuary: The Elephant Sanctuary, Hohenwald, Tennessee

I assume you're aware that Hohenwald is a little bit off the beaten path, and the surrounding areas are very rural. But if what you're looking for is a quiet place in the country to retire, Hohenwald might very well fit the bill.

A couple of friends from my old job take their horses down there during the summer for trail rides. Have seen pictures from there and it is something to see! Haven't seen the town or been there myself but pictures of the countryside are something!

Merriweather Lewis (of Lewis and Clark fame) is buried in Hohenwald.

That's about as much as I know!

Quiet little coffee shops, historical downtown, German heritage, Sports focused (kids) But the older folks like Panther Football too. Several beautiful creeks, Buffalo River, Trees, 2 winerys, SuperWalmart, Tractor Supply, a short 4lane, 4 red lights and your headed out of town in either direction, Pet friendly town, Taxes are cheap, Neat little theatre called THE STRAND -- musicals, dramas, etc. VERY NICE PEOPLE and a hillbilly mayor

It was the first place I looked when I decided to leave Oakland, CA. Very pretty countryside and saw some nice houses but...the real estate agent I was working with made it clear that if I was not a member of a church I would have a very hard time making friends and having any sort of social life. Lots and lots and lots of small fundamentalist churches but I believe that the nearest general bookstore was almost 50 miles.

Very nice veterinarian there who also does Golden Retriever rescue.

Here's a link to the local chamber... if you call or send them a nice e-mail on relocation they will gladly send you information on the community and what it has to offer. I would suggest setting up a bogus e-mail address so "You" get to decide who and whom you contact..
Hohenwald-Lewis County TN Chamber of Commerce - Welcome
