Clifton, TN
Can anyone provide any info regarding Clifton, TN? Looking for a retirement area that is not excessively hot in summer and close to hunting, fishing, outdoor activities. Wife is into quilting and sewing and would like an area where there are those type of clubs, etc. Also, is Clifton prone to tornadoes?
Any information greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure I would think of Clifton for the things you mentioned. Maybe someone else here knows more about it than I do. I don't know that I would say Clifton is "prone" to tornadoes, but they're certainly possible there.
You might also consider the Monteagle Mountain area near Chattanooga. Or the area around Paris, Tennessee (which is near Kentucky Lake and Land Between the Lakes).

Have you thought of North East TN? Over in or near the Tri-Cities? We are a bit cooler (Only by a few degrees) in the summer, still don't get much snow in the winter. We have several lakes, Boone, Watuga, Holston, Cherokee, Douglas and many rivers and streams. We are close to the mountains but still in the valley and foot hills so driving is good. There are a few sewing and quilt clubs around. I just read there there will be the second annual quilt and needlework exhibit April 27-29 at the Appalachian Antique Farm show that will be held at the Appalachian fair grounds in Gray TN, which is in Washington County, just north of Johnson City.

There's also the Appalachian Art Center over in East Tennessee. Your wife would probably enjoy visiting that no matter where you decide to move to. They have classes and all sorts of stuff.

Thanks mbmouse & alley cat. We are actually concentrating on the NE TN area and the area around Dale Hollow a bit. Looking at prior postings for these areas is definitely leading us in that direction. I've been getting lots of real estate info for Clifton & Savannah and was just curious. Seems like there are a lot more places for sale in those areas. Thanks again.

Clifton Resident :)
Firefighterdon,
I live very near Clifton, TN on the Hardin County/ Wayne County border. I can say with all honesty that it is extremely hot here in summer. The humidity is what makes it so unbearable. The only place I've lived that was any hotter was Louisiana on the bayou. Phoenix actually seemed cooler to me! Clifton and Savannah are great little towns and are definitely growing. Many people are moving here to retire and enjoy the river and lake as waterfront property here is really quite reasonably priced. The cost of living is low and there is no state income tax. However, unless you are planning on retiring and financially secure, the job prospects here are very slim. I love it here, we are very content, but, June, July, and August would be a good time to go "North for the Summer"

P.S. No tornadoes!
P.S. Fortunately because of Clifton's location in the "horseshoe bend" of the river it is not "prone" to tornadoes. The river seems to have some protective effect on Savannah and Clifton although this is just ancedotal and not scientifically proven. Not saying that it couldn't happen, just that it is less frequent than in surrounding areas, particularly Adamsville in neighboring McNairy Co or Jackson, TN in Madison Co. seems like they get "shredded" more frequently.

My husband and I are looking into the Clifton area to relocate. What can you tell us about your prospects and do you know anything about the land sale at Ross Creek Ridge?

Clifton is a great place to live right now, but land value will decrease as time moves on.
