I had never heard of Baxter so I looked it up. It looks like it is west of Cookeville. Here is the City-Data page on it. I also found this on maps.live.com.

Im not real familiar with the exact road, but the area is all rural. It looks like its fairly close to I 40 and 56 so your not really in baxter and would hear interstate buzz. They have built a few businesses close by there like a gas station/mcdonalds and I think a waffle house, but it is really close to cookeville.

It's been a couple of years since I've been to that part of Putnam County, but it looks like Stephanie Lane is right next to "Baxter Crossroads" which is where US Hwy 70 meets state Hwy 56. There's a Dollar General at that intersection as well as a couple of gas stations. I think Stephanie Lane opens up onto Hwy 70 at about the same spot as a honky tonk nightclub type place, if I remember correctly. Also, the new Upperman High School is pretty close to there, maybe 1/4 - 1/2 mile away.

It's a quick drive from there to the Jackson Street shopping area in west Cookeville (Kohl's, Belk, Sears, TJMaxx, Old Navy, Petco, Peebles, Kirkland's, Books-A-Million, etc).

Thanks cnguy2000 the Google map was just what I needed to look over the area/terrain and go down the roads. I was told I could do that but never tried until now. WoW
And also thanks to all others to take their time to help with questions.

I'm glad you found some helpful information.
The last time I was in Baxter was when I was a little girl, and there wasn't a lot there.
I know my Mom lived there, and her Sister and brother in- law owned a store.
They are both gone now, and I don't know if the store still exists.

Back then it was very rural.

You mean part of Coal Miner's Daughter was filmed in Baxter?? I'd never heard that before. That's really cool!

Baxter is still a little town with a tiny little downtown area, but it's really starting to grow. The new high school there is pretty big for such a small town (Baxter has a population of 1,200 and the high school has about 600 students), and the elementary school is almost at capacity again even after a new school was built. There's a new winery and an upscale development just outside of Baxter, and the countryside around that part of Putnam County is becoming dotted with new homes and mini-farms. It's convenient to I-40 and is an hour from Nashville and 5-10 minutes to Cookeville.

There's a movement in Baxter to rebuild its old train depot downtown. Baxter was originally just a stop on the railroad that Jere Baxter built (hence the town's name). And now that a paved trail is being built alongside the RR tracks between Monterey and Cookeville, folks in Baxter are talking about extending the trail to Baxter.

It's a nice little town in a good location and in a county with outstanding schools. I would not hesitate to live there.

My moms sisters name was Floy Scarlett. I can't think of her husbands name right now.
They owned the store. Not sure if it was the same one for the movie or not.

When I was a little kid my Aunt Floy took me and my sisters into the store and let us each pick out a doll.
My Mom's Uncle Bethel lived in Silver Point and lived to be a 100.
Silver Point isn't too far from Baxter.
