There are only a few counties in Tennessee which required emissions testing. Nashville/Davidson county is one, and several of the surrounding counties. It's not required in most counties.
It matters only in what county you live. If you live in a county that doesn't require testing and you drive daily into one that does, no problem.

We had this same discussion in this forum just a few days ago.
Here are the places in Tennessee that require vehicle emissions testing on certain vehicles:
Davidson County
Hamilton County
Rutherford County
Sumner County
Williamson County
Wilson County
City of Memphis
Here's where you can find more detailed information:

Thanks! This is good information. It's just when you come from a state where the laws are the same all over it's a little confusing

I think you've done a nice job here of defending the "fitting in" question, northcountrygirl. You give a lot of detail that hopefully sheds light on the inoffensive reasoning some of us are going through when we ask this offensive question
As to your last remark, that seems a particularly hard one to get a specific comment about. There's been a response from a great poster in the Knoxville area, suggesting that churching at home is seen as a perfectly acceptable position. As for the more rural areas you're looking into, I could very well be wrong and just have missed it, but I haven't seen a specific answer to that specific question.

We're becoming a suburb of our neighboring city and we're starting to feel a bit cramped. I'm only worried because the last thing I want is to be one of those people. I just wanted to make sure we're going to be given a chance for people to get to know us

Yeah! I was told once that if a position should open up for Master Worrier I should apply. It's a tough job but somebody has to do it.

Moderator cut: advertising not allowed I haved lived in Tn most of my life, except for a few years in FL. I don't think you will find a finer bunch of people anywhere in the world. I am proud of Tn as I/m sure you can tell, but I do live in a small town where I never lock my house and always leave my keys in my car and neighbors are always willing to lend a hand.

I think the worst "redneck" you would be afraid of would love to hear all about "New Hampshire, Ya'll git alot of snow there, huh?"
