Kar, I definitely know who you are! I'm glad you got the joke!
Northcountrygirl: I posted these here because you are kind of from where I'm from and I wanted to show you that this area is a lot like what you are used to. The only difference is that the weather is a LOT better and the people are nicer!
I live about 15 minutes from Knoxville, yet this is my neighborhood.
I only want to inspire you, not to depress you!
I DO miss the Saint Paddy Day celebrations in Massachusetts, though. There are a lot of Irish here, Scotch-Irish. There are more natural redheads than I have ever seen, but not lots of celebrating, though! I guess I am too old for that sort of thing, anyway. I have to go in for 6 a.m. tomorrow, so that means that I will be in bed at 8 tonight!
Happy Saint Paddy's Day to y'all y'all!

Oh you didn't depress me As I'm looking out the window at the piles of snow and looking at your great pictures! Really I'm Irish myself and am wearing my green today. You did help inspire me! Our trip out is being moved up about 9 months. How's that for inspiration?

Seriously though! We are considering property in Waynesboro. Can anybody give me any thoughts? I'd appreciate it.

Hello again, Northcountrygirl. I think you can buy property around Waynesboro for less than in most areas of Tennessee. It is in a nice quiet rural area with not much crime, but I've heard that the local economy isn't very good. And tornadoes are much more likely there than in more mountainous areas.

Hi Ridgerunner! Thanks for the information. Actually we had planned to look at a property in waynesboro that was perfect but unfortunately it went under contract the very morning I called. Oh, well the search continues. Any suggestions in other areas of Wayne or surrounding counties for reasonable, out in the country homes?

Hi acc77! The people on this forumn, both native tennesseeans and transplants have been very friendly and helpful. They have put my mind at ease and calmed my fears about moving. It's funny that you should mention wanting a place to put "a chair". My favorite mental picture is sitting on my front porch in a rocking chair. Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!

Well I just thought I would say a few things about Tennessee and give anyone my thoughts on moving here.
Tennessee is great...and if I wanted to live in the South then TN would be the place for me. I currently live in Cookeville TN and that is a great city. It is growing but it is not as big as Nashville...however we have Kohls, Peebles, Sears, JcPenny, TJ Max, Old Navy, Books a Millsion, Petco...gee we have it all except a Toys R Us and a Target. But I think Target will be on the way soon. It has a small city atmosphere but it is not too dangerous for you to raise children. Great scenic country living.
Actually if you want to live a simpler and quieter life then the country would be great for you. If you dont mind not being able to find any fast food at 1 am in the morning then you will like it. If cashiers at Walmart talking to you about their life and everything else and being very friendly sounds good then you will like it here. If you have different priorities then you might want to reconsider.
I was born and rasied in Jamestown TN ( Fentress County). Very small. Quiet life like Andy Griffith quiet. You go to church on Sunday and have a dinner and set on the front porch and talk to your neighbors! When you go to the post office then people ask you lots of questions and you stand there for 30 mins chatting with an old friend or neighbor.
I used to live in Nashville and all I can say with that is that you have endless shopping and not as much country setting on the porch swing stuff.
Up on the mountains they do not clear the snow too well....In Jamestown about 15 years ago we had a huge snow and our power was out for 15 days. The rescue squad had to get my mother and bring her to my house ( in Cookeville) to stay or she would have froze to death.
It really is country in some places...but you probably will be healthier with so much less stress than in the city!
I moved to Tucson Arizona ( I had to come back temporarily because of an ill family member but I am moving back soon) and fell in love....I have allergies and all the green in TN is murder for me. I guess people sometimes want the opposite of what they have. Changes are good sometimes.
Dont let anyone tell you that TN or coutry life in general is bad....it is great if you are up for it...Just look into you soul and see how you want o live your life...you future...and definitely go for it! Life is so short...
