The cats just know they are the Kings and we are their servants.
The lesser animals, like dogs, are only tolerated if they recognize their proper humble role, behave and do obeisance to any cat that walks by.

Thanks Knox garden, I am still looking into that site. Forest Breath, thanks for checking around for me. I would consider Missouri maybe. But I love Tn. Or possibly the Carolinas or something like that. I wonder if someone from the outside can join the mennonites? Forest Breath, do you have running water? I think you don't have electric though right? I have tried to follow some of your posts, but don't always get all the info. I believe you traded city life for what you have now correct? How was the transitioning if so? Thanks again all. Keep telling me more!

I'll keep researching the Farm though. thanks.

You can live at The Farm. The application process is rather lengthy and you must have a sponsor, but it is possible.
They do appear to be like minded.....just not quite like me
They live in the country (30 miles to the nearest hospital)
They do make alot of things from scratch.
They appear to be extremely family & community oriented.
If you like their message you can contact them and ask to go through The Farm Experience Week (actually only 3 days). That should give you a little bit better exposure to their way of life.
Good luck in your search

The guy who walked across America in the mid 70's ( PeterJenkins) stayed and lived at The Farm for awhile.
He didn't have much good to say about it and said that was the only place he stayed that his dog didn't like it.
Maybe they cut back on the dope use in the last 30 years.

There's also Sequatchie Valley Institute near Chattanooga.
Sequatchie Valley Institute - research and education in sustainable living
They seem more 21st Century than The Farm. Again, they train people in sustainable living and might be a good resource to find groups. Don't know if they let people join their group.

Ok, I don't know if we are quite ready for an intentional community yet. But I would love to know especially from those on here who are homesteading, where is conducive to this lifestyle and if there are others in the general vicinity who share this lifestyle? I would be transitioning from city life to homesteading and would love to have some kind of mentorship/support system for this lifestyle. Thanks.

Check with the Local Farmer's market and Agriculture Office. Get to know some of the old farmers in the area you will be living and their families. Old farmers LOVE to talk and you will eventually find one that would be willing to have a free helping hand doing things and you can learn in the process. You have to give a little to get a little sometimes and working a bit for a local farming family can give you invaluable knowledge and experience.
