Anyone from the Northeast?
Hi Everyone,
Just wondering if anyone born and raised in the northeast now lives here? Do you enjoy it and would you ever move back to the northeast? I am from Southern New Hampshire and my husband and I are looking to move to a warmer climate, different scenery, way of life etc. We are getting sick of the winters year after year.
Thanks!

I was born and raised in central NY. Spent about 20+ years in southern CT and about 10 years in northern IL. I retired down here last November and love it. I would suggest that you visit down here before making any decisions. We selected the Murfreesboro area. Dave

We lived in NY and CT until last year when we retired to TN. We live north of Nashville.
I agree with DaveM123 that you should take a trip down and see TN for yourself to decide if you would like to move here. If you want to be by the mountains than eastern TN would be the place; otherwise, I would suggest middle TN.

I was born and raised on Long Island NY. I've lived in FL, back to NY, NC back to FL, and now TN right over the border from where I used to live in NC.
I have been in this area of TN on and off for over 12 years.
I love it here but when I first got here it took some time to adjust. Things and people are different and I wanted to blend as much as I could. I have no desire to change things here. TN is now my home and I have no plans on leaving.
I would never go back to NY. Too crowded, too expensive, and too many politicians, lol.
I am in the mountains so we do get more snow than a lot of other parts of TN. Good luck to you but I also "highly" recommend you make a few trips to make sure TN is right for you.

I lived on Long Island until I was 43, vacationed in Hew Hampshire every year, and then lived in MD for 12 years. Are you retired? What's here that would make it appealing to you?

I'm from upstate NY and live in the Knoxville area. I love it here and it has become my home and you couldn't pay me enough money to move back to NY.Going back to visit is like dragging me kicking and screaming because I don't want to go. When I get to NY, I'm ready to come back home within hours.
Have you visited Tn. at all? I highly reccomend you do as Tn. is a very big diverse state. Are you still working? Have jobs lined up before you move.As for the natives of this state, I feel comfortable around them and I'm never made to feel like an outsider.East Tn. has 4 distinct seasons and the beauty of the landscape is rivalled only by the Hudson Valley of NY's beauty.
But don't be under a misconception that Tn. winters are warm and mild. This winter we were only about a 5 degree difference then NY had. It does get cold here and Tn. weather is not like the deep south. On here we hear many complain that they moved here and it is too cold for them. So be aware that you won't be wearing shorts year round and bring your winter coat.

Yes & No.!
Holly: Original upstate Ny , Troy. Many years in the Hudson River Valley ,Poughkeepsie,. Glad to leave high taxes & snow , even thou expert skier / worker many years in mtns.
. 12 years in Fla to ride cycles, but hurricanes ,& INsurance nightmare industry , said there must be a better retiree place . One trip to East Tenn was a homecoming. We are south of Knoxville ,south of Dayton , just off the Tenn river. Very active church family values here . Our grandchildren went to central Maine for snowmobiles, atv's, so visit once a year.
.. Much more flowers , colorful spring trees here. 70 degrees the other day .
Had one 30 minute snow storm this year. & a few 6 degree morning .

My wife and I were born in NY City and lived all our lives on Long Island. We moved to TN in 2003 and absolutely love it. We have great friends, a better climate, lower taxes and cost of living, less traffic, etc. We should have left NY decades ago.
Move back to NY? In a pine box when we pass on but not before.
As long as you don't come on as a know it all and can accept a slower life style (healthier-I lost 40 pounds) you'll be fine. I do miss hard rolls and bread (everything here is soft and squishy) and good deli cold cuts (liverwurst and decent roast beef are all but unknown) but give me TN anytime.

Thanks everyone for the responses. My husband will be looking at jobs in the IT field and then when an interview comes we will go around exploring TN. We also have a two year old daughter.
