CBS is rarely used for home construction in Tennessee. I'm not completely sure, but I believe it would be looked upon very negatively if a CBS house was put on the market.

Would I buy or built one in Tennessee? No.

Do you think it's because, a CBS house stays cold longer?

No, CBS, rightly or wrongly, is considered a cheap form of construction.

I'm not debating that a CBS-built home can't be as good as a frame home, I'm only relaying the common perception here. For single-family residential construction in Tennessee, CMU is basically used for two types of construction: basements and public housing.

CMU is Concrete Masonry Units, what used to be known as concrete blocks.

I would guess theirs more homes in TN that have basements or crawl space,so CB would be impractical due to the weight. A stick frame with siding ~ or other material or brick either half brick or full brick.. CB staying cold.... then the same would hold true for a true brick home. The reason I say that I have a brick home here in Florida and had one up North N.Y I see no difference in being cold. Once you have the home heated or air conditioned I see that as a advantage it retains the heat / cold longer than a conventional stick frame with siding or other...brick facia.
The CB home that I have lived in Fl act like a sieve / sponge once the wall gets wet on the out side of a CB it migrates and at least here cause mold problems. That's why they seal the basement walls and back fill with crushed stone to alleviate the water problem.... just my two cents.. Frame Construction definitely !! or Log

Sorry I don't want to sound dumb. But, now I'm really confused. CBS is Concrete Block Structure. And then Masonry is put on the blocks.
I guess someone just changed the name. Thanks for the info on it being used mainly for basements and public housing. Here in FL the feeling is the other way around. Chance of selling is better if you house is CBS, than frame.

CB is better here in Florida.... Due to Hurricane and you can slap a CB home up quicker that a stick built plus termite and they are "cheaper" to put up. But that's changing.... do to Concrete in Florida is like gold. Concrete is harder to come by and getting more costly every where. That's why you see so many new homes with either wood studs and now the trend is steel studs and wall and roof panels.... Steel is the new product...

Yes, there are differences in what is acceptable in different areas. It's well-known that CMU/CBS is a perfectly acceptable type of construction in Florida. However, if you were to build a CBS house with jalousie windows in Tennessee, you might have a very hard time selling it if you ever needed to.

Here's the short answer unless someone comes along with better information than I have. Forget building a CBS house in Tennessee.
