NEW to TN--Williamson County
Just moved to Williamson County, west of Franklin.
I want to explore the TN vibe that is OFF the beaten path. I can go to Nashville and see the sights anytime...I want to get in my car with my dog and drive the backroads...to see OLD SKOOL stuff...to get lost in the boonies and need my GPS to find my way home.
I am near 96 and 100.
Any thoughts, tips, ideas...
THANKS!

How about . . .
A drive down the Natchez Trace Parkway.
A drive out to Montgomery Bell State Park.
Driving west on Highway 70 until you get to Kentucky Lake. If that's not enough, then drive up to Land Between the Lake and visit the 1850 homeplace (that's certainly old school).
Watch old episodes of Tennessee Crossroads (PBS) online until there's a story about some place that interests you, and then head that way.
Drive over to Nolensville and have barbecue at Martin's.

I agree. (What do you know, I agree with Alleycat. What a shock!) Natchez Trace is absolutely gorgeous. We recently set off with a similar idea- get lost and find our way back. We went through Leipers Fork and just kept going off on "Something Branch " this and "Something Hollow" that until it was time to turn back. Beautiful country.
It's not far the Ethridge, either. You can drive from Amish farm to Amish farm and buy homemade soaps, jam, and furniture.
BTW, Loveless Cafe is right off the Trace....just sayin....
Welcome!

I have a GREAT book that touts itself as the complete tour guide to Tennessee. It has several driving routes or 'loops' that take you on some of the most beautiful backroads and through some great towns. I hesitate to mention the title for fear it may be considered advertising, so DM me if you're interested. Hubby and I love to take road trips on the backroads and have had a lot of fun wih this book!

I agree, find yourself a backroads book.
And if you ever exhaust middle TN possibilities , then head on over to east TN and get lost in the mountains!

You have an number of journeys ahead of you. I usually take a map (not a GPS, but a big, fat Rand-McNally) which serves me very well. I don't really recommend over-knowing where you're going, but looking to see where you've been.
Don't forget northwest Davidson and beyond. Many of my most memorable excursions have involved getting lost in the rugged hills north of the city. You'll never run out of places to discover...EVER.
