Makes it easier to find gun owners when the administration decides to "creatively reinterpret" the Second Amendment and round up the guns in this country.

This isn't a list of who owns a gun. This is a list of who has a carry permit. Non carry permit holders can own a gun and guns don't have to be registered beyond initial purchase. You can buy them from individuals, etc. and the original owners name is still on the gun.
I think one of the problems with the listing on the website is that it is easier access for someone to find out who most likely has guns. One of the arguments is that it could make them a target for robbery. Of course, that would be when they know the homeowner isn't home.

I think they should print the names and addresses of all the residents who don't own guns.
That info might be useful to certain types of people.

Drivers' Licenses Not Public
Drivers' licenses are not ordinarily accessible to the public so why are gun carry permits public? Too much personal information is already public in ways that people know nothing about.
Conversely, much governmental information that used to be public no longer is or is accessible only by formal (and now restricted) access. The so-called "Freedom of Information" laws were enacted by bureaucrats to find out who is inquiring about what. I can tell you from personal experience in utilizing property records in my business that anytime you see a word such as "equal", "freedom" or "fair" in a law's title, rest assured that it is not.
While governmental agencies (read "government employees") now go to great lengths to protect themselves, the government increasingly lets the populace fend for themselves.
What's good for them should be good for us.

The whole point of having a permit is to carry the gun on your person, not leave it at home.

I see your point for those that just have one gun and never go to places that don't allow guns. Every individual case is different. In our situation we have so many guns that the last time we moved we had to have a truck specifically and only for the sole purpose of transporting the gun safe, guns, knives and ammo. Also, if we are going to a particular place that doesn't allow weapons inside we will sometimes leave them at home rather than in the vehicle. It just depends on the specific situation.
There has also been some local talk around that battered womens whereabouts can be found via this and also the fact that they now will most likely have a gun in their possession. I believe that if someone wants to find you they will whether this is out there or not.
There are three bills that just advanced in the TN House so change regarding these gun laws is coming it would seem.
Personally, I don't really mind that our info is out there; I am proud for people to know that we carry. Our home is well protected. I do understand why some people would care and I do have compassion for some folks situations.
