I found this comment to interesting if not funny, "It's got big-city shopping (Sam's Club, two Wal-Mart Supercenters, Kohl's, Sears, JCPenney, Belk, TJMaxx, etc.), "

No offense, JMT, really, but 'big city' shopping? When I think of big city shopping I think of Nordstroms, Sephora, Saks or Macy's. When I think of small town shopping, I get the Wal-mart, Kohl's, Sears, Sam's etc.

No offense taken. I think you and klosk are cut from the same mold.

And I guess that means Knoxville, Chattanooga, and the Tri Cities (all metro areas each with over a half-million people) aren't big cities, either.

Since I am new to the boards, I don't know who klosk is, but I'll take your word for it.

Personally, I don't judge a city by the size of it's population, but what it has available to it.

Currently living in Denver gets one jaded. Denver isn't unlike Nashville really, with exception of size of the area/suburbs and the PITA traffic.

I'm not really sure what you want. You said in another post that Franklin is too "rich" for you, but on the other hand you want to live in a town wealthy enough to support the likes of Nordstrom, Macy's, Saks, etc.

One of the reasons I like East Tennessee is that it ISN'T "rich" and we're happy with stores like Kohl's and Belk. It doesn't bother me one iota that we don't have Macy's or Saks. I used to live in that kind of superficial environment (Atlanta) and it got old in a hurry. I thank God that Knoxville isn't like that.

No, and I know what Nashville has and has not. I have only been away for 10 years. When I visit Nashville now, my favorite restaurants to visit are Krystals, Shoney's and any 'meat and three' I can find!! As for shopping, as long as shopping is available within 30 -45 mins, I'm good! Oh, and lest we forget the online shopping! LOL Survival Schmurvival!

As long as there's a Marshalls (I've checked - 2 in the Knoxville area), and TJ Maxx is in Cookeville, and Kohl's I'm extremely happy, as they have all the clothes that the Macy's, Boscovs, Kaufmanns, Lord & Taylor, etc carry, but at a discount! But, as long as I've got internet access, there's always Ebay!!

And sorry, but, I love Walmart. There's a Costco and Direct Buy in Knoxville, so again, I'm happy.

I support the local's, but in my experience in business, if you don't change or adapt, then you go under. Local shoppes provide the ambiance and local goods that Walmart doesn't, and that's fine.

Now, if we can only find out what heavy equipment operators really do make in that area, .....

God bless, shen
