You may also want to check out Monteagle or Sewanee Tennessee. I relocated here about 20 years ago and I love it. Monteagle and Sewanee being only 6 miles apart. Nashville is app 90 miles east of here and Chattanooga is about 45 miles away. Winchester and Tullahoma are also within 30 miles of Sewanee. Winchester boasts the honor of being Dinah Shore's hometown. Just west of Winchester off Highway 50 is Tims Ford State Park, 400 acres of about anything you could want to do-camping, biking, hiking, boating.fishing etc.. Monteagle has its own flea-market, one of my favorite things to do on weekends. Sewanee is having its annual Trails and Trilliums celebration this coming weekend as well. I will have a full weekend no doubt!

Cookeville
Just want to say that we moved here last summer from the north. We had explored several areas/towns in Tennessee and settled on Cookeville. We absolutely love it here! The surrounding area is beautiful. There are five state parks within easy driving distance (and all state parks in Tennessee is free). There is a Welcome Club that plans activities every week and really keeps me busy. They have recently added activities for the men too. Everyone I have met in the club has been very nice. The town is growing and more things (restaurants, shopping) are becoming available. The mall is terrible, but guess it's going to be torn down anyway. We need Target here. In spite of the few things we miss, we are very happy in Cookeville and would never consider moving back north.

What a great post! I'm glad you enjoy living in Cookeville. I think it's a wonderful town, too. I'll probably head over there today to pick up some things we can't get here in Knoxville (King's Salads pimento cheese, Great Harvest bread, Nirvana Belgian chocolate).

How funny! King's Salads has their own store/restaurant called Salads & More (I think that's the name). It's behind the Hobby Lobby shopping center. They also have delicious ham salad and chicken salad. But you can buy their pimento cheese at Spring Street Supermarket downtown. It's the only pimento cheese my dad will eat. On a side note, if you want a real Cookeville experience, do your grocery shopping at Spring Street. It was the first supermarket to open between Nashville and Knoxville way back in the 1950s, and I swear some of the cashiers were probably there on opening day. They still call you "hon" and "sweetie." The butchers are sooo friendly, and the quality of the meet is outstanding. They also have some of the best country ham around (Clifty Farm, out of Paris TN) and will slice it for you there.
Where did you eat out in Knoxville? In Cookeville, I enjoy eating at Taiko, Crawdaddy's, and Bobby Q's. Someone told me about Sebastian's on the Square, I should try that sometime.

Hi everyone, Work has kept me from playing catch up on here. We are still looking to sell and get out of Florida. Hubby is looking to transfer to a Home Depot (wherever we choose to move to in Tennessee). Anyone heard any rumors of a "new Home Depot" being brought to any of the eastern areas of Tennessee? I have a general fear of hurricanes and major tornados, so I prefer to stay way east. Aside from that we are still looking for activites, college classes, rural with the big towns close by...... Any informtation would be great. Thanks and have a great and safe week all.

Try looking at Moderator cut: link for real estate listings. For Monteagle area look at Grundy, and Marion Counties. There are extensive hiking and outdoor activities available you are right in the middle of the South Cumberland recreation area. There are many acreage tracts available in this area at very reasonable prices.

I hear Cookeville is going to build a HD. They also have a college. Hour or so to Nashville.

I live in Sewanee, good advice about the realtracs, you should be able to find what your looking for there. I wish we had a Home Depot right here. Would make life so much easier.

Bones, Thanks for the information about Cookeville's potential HD. We had looked at some real estate there and I was interested in that town because they did have college there.
