Cookeville Regional?
Does anyone know anything Cookeville Regional and whether they are planning layoffs? I saw on their website that they are hiring for quite a few positions. That is where I was going to try to get a job at, but the other worry about moving aside from finding a job is getting laid off soon after.
TIA,
~Sarah

I work in the healthcare field and can say with some confidence that if there are positions posted, they are not planning a lay off. Perhaps it would be worth your time to call the HR office and talk with them about their benefits, ask how the hospital is doing financially in this tough market, etc - interview them so to speak. It is a little less direct than asking, "Are you all doing layoffs?", but it will give you the answer you are looking for.
That all said, tough economy to predict anything with regard to jobs. Perhaps someone familiar with Cookeville Regional can also comment on if they have had layoffs in their past, and what was the most recent event.
Good luck in your search and relocation.

Sorry, I couldn't disagree with you more. Direct care patient jobs are usually pretty secure but others in healthcare, especially here in TN, are not as secure as they once were. I know where you are in Florida, Grizz, the healthcare business is a different beast in a couple of ways. Here in Tennessee there is a completely different climate than most other states. Also, I know of positions that are posted in various health systems that they have no plans on filling. They remain posted for various reasons. This, of course, is no different than some other businesses outside of healthcare. Calling HR will usually only give you the stock, polite answers. Having said all of that I do have friends that work at the hospital in question and they like it. Good facility. Good luck to the OP in their search.

CRMC has been affected by the same "global downturn" that seems to be hitting most everybody. They are in a good position to weather any potential storm but they are taking the stance that they want to respond to changes in the economic climate rather than react to them. For that reason, cost-cutting measures are in the process of being implemented and more are almost certainly on the way. So far, layoffs do not seem to be in the picture but no promises are being made for the future.

SMG - You are correct, being in Florida just may be a different animal. We're doing pretty well down here right now. I will say, I have been through probably 8 reductions during my career, most of them smaller. But the pattern I've seen is that all postings are removed as the reduction approaches.
Firepower - You are definitely in position with your wife at CRMC, have they had any layoffs in the past 5 years?

Sadly that is not happening in this area. I know positions that are frozen yet they are still listed. It is going to get worse before it gets better in TN in healthcare. Of course, that is just my own humble opinion and it is generally speaking. (not directed at any one facility)

She says no they have not. There have been a couple of times & situations where they have cut some hours in some departments, but no layoffs.

Someone I know was recently let go from CRMC but they worked in a non-medical department. I don't know if that person was laid off though... I know they didn't backfill the job though.
It's hard to believe that place would be strapped for cash after the big construction project they just completed.

Thanks for all the replies... and Thanks for checking with your wife firepower. I also had googled "Cookeville Regional layoffs" and didn't see anything come up. When I called the Chamber of Commerce yesterday (to pay for my relocation package) the woman I spoke with also mentioned their newly finished wing, and suggested they wouldn't have problems any time soon if at all.
Hubby and I are planning a trip up after the kids get out of school; I plan on checking job prospects out in person when I do.
Thanks again
