Sorry, I'm not a Tn resident YET, but have been there twice this spring as my good friend moved to Niota - b/n 'nooga & Knox in McMinn County and she just LOVES it!
WE are coming from FLorida, where the people are rude and the cost of living is high and the salaries low. All in McMinn county seems to be the opposite. Especially the friendliness of the people. AND they actually show up on time/day they say they will when you contract them to do work! NOT so in Fla! They've been there since early March and say the seasons aren't so bad. Mild spring - a little chilly when you're used to 75 days but all in all very nice. Haven't had to use their A/C yet - mine's been on since March!
She works in Knoxvle and there seems to be an abundance of jobs around.
I can't wait until my house sellls so I can go too!

Thanks for a response, I too am from Florida 20 years in Sarasota, went away for 4 years and came back to an ourageously expensive, snobby city. Thought i would try Denver, about the same expensive and snobby.
Like the mountains and scenery around Etowah.
Maybe i will see you there.

You poor naive soul. I lived in TN for five years. My cousin moved from Detroit (my home town) 20 years ago and ran the gas company in Etowah there for years. I've been there several times.
Tennesseans are like most of the South. Very nice to your face, and talking about you to your back. Just know that you cannot take the Southerner at face value. There are levels of subtleties that you just have to learn by experience. Part of an old world chivalry or something. Anyway, there are plenty of places in TN that are better than Etowah. In fact, I can't imagine that you have seen much of the state and arrive at Etowah as a location. Unless you are independently wealthy or are going to live off the land, what kind of work will you do?
Anyway, I know this will not change you mind, but about six months or a year down the road you will say, you know that guy had something there.

mhogan sweetie
I see you are from Brooklyn?
Well I've been a Southerner for 30+ of my 40+ years and let me tell you the Floridians are the worst! People will talk about you behind your back anywhere you go but I'm talking downright rudeness and snottiness to your face! That's what I've encountered here (FLA)
In Tn at least they're nice to you, to your face!
As far as jobs in Etowah, I have no idea, I was referring to Knox where there are dozens and dozens of jobs in the paper and on line and at the university and for the government and if you can't do one of them, then maybe you need to stay in Brooklyn.

East Tn / Don't be fooled by friendly
Don't be fooled - some of the people are not friendly - I tried moving there a few years ago to find out most resent the facts / we are taking up their space, building our new homes, but our retirement helps their economy. We moved to Northern Georgia and love it!
