Crime and ignorance as well as the uneducated aren't just in cities. They are all over.I think this is a broader problem pertaining to todays society, then a wave hitting small towns in Tn.

There is no safe place nowadays. That's an unfortunate fact. The danger lies in having a sense of false security no matter where you live.

While there will always be an occasional big flashy crime like that, the bulk of small town crime is property crime and you can reduce your chances of being a victim of that by a good 80-90% just by locking the doors to your home and car when you're not in them. (Yeah I know it's like heresy in many small towns but read the police blotter in the weekly newspaper and that kind of property crime dominates the tallies)

In my neck of the woods it is not property crime that is mostly seen in the news, it is domestic. Very little property crime here actually and the majority of that is usually by a relative or someone who knows what is in the home to steel and sell to get drug money.

The original example in the thread was not over drug money...on the contrary, it was people acting worse than the worst episode of "Springer" (the glorification of out-of-control anger on those types of shows has turned out have a huge negative impact on the behavior and attitudes in small towns especially on young females who act out on a 24/7/365 basis what they see in those shows)

From what I heard, it was a nephew that shot the family. Not a random crime at all. Doesn't make it any better, of course.
I seriously doubt this kind of thing stems from watching shows like Springer.

I can't stand when people try to use TV as a scapegoat. It doesn't wash with me.
