Have the same questions. When we visited we did notice several families at the playground beach area and noticed a couple houses had swing sets so there must be kids but our realtor was honest and told us there are not many. Golf attracts mostly older couples who have grown kids.
Planning a trip this August to the area and I plan on driving around at the approximate time that you would see school buses to get a better idea.

Tellico Village is a planned community. It is pretty well isolated from anything else. They have lots and lots of rules. Other than the Ace hardware store, there really isn't much in the way of shopping. I have often wondered where the residents do their grocery shopping.

Tellico Village is an all age community, but there are many retirees. Many are transplants, since TV was heavily advertised in other states. We are planning to buy there in about 2 years when we retire. We visited last summer and found that it was beautiful and everything was as advertised on the website. It is a great place with lots of fun activities. I wouldn't expect many young families there because the home prices are much higher than the norm for east Tennessee and there are not many jobs in the immediate area, unless you want to commute at least half an hour. In addition to the higher home prices, there are HOA fees of about $75 a month. Membership in the recreation center and pool is an additional $200 or so dollars per year per family.

We visited Tellico Village last year and it is isolated. Turkey Creek is the closest "good" shopping area but that is over 1/2 hour away. Lots of activities, nice but somewhat overpriced houses. We haven't removed it from our list but are looking at Fairfield Glade right now.

I'm interested in hearing more about Fairfield Glade. Let me know what you find there Nitney. Especially prices on homes.

Fairfield Glade is out by Crossville. We stayed in C'ville last spring and it's a nice area. From what I've seen I believe Crossville/FF Glade is a very big golfing community. Also tons of retirees there, and if you look on realtor dot com there's a million tiny little lots selling for a song...which means to me the area's about to be inundated by transplanted retirees.
Loudon's nice, the schools are having huge problems right now though...I think it's because a lot of the tax money in the county comes from Tellico Village (did you see the prices on some of those lots?!), and since TV is mostly retirees, I think schools are a low priority for many taxpayers there. Hence, the schools are literally falling apart.
On the bright side, however, there's been quite an uproar about it and hopefully that will force their hand to fix the school facilities.

I like Crossville, and it is someplace I would live.
The Loudon schools aren't falling apart because of the Tellico residents. If anything, the high taxes to student ratio in that area helps subsidise the rest of the county taxpayers. If the schools are falling apart, it is the county government/school board's fault.
