Do some municipalities still get you for 'wheel tax' down there? If so, that can add to the cost, but only in the sense that it brings you up to average of what you pay in other states. (tag plus wheel tax ran us like $60-$70 when we moved inside the city limits)

Memphis was $108 plus the inconvenience of having to go through inspection, I was thrilled to find out that it's only $24 a year here in Bristol.

I would suggest East TN. (Nashville or Knoxville) I am a National Healthcare Recruiter located in Dyersburg, Tn. and I love East TN. and try to visit as often as possible. There are more career opportunities there as well. Good Luck!!

capt dan. you should think before you speak. i was born and raised in baltimore, now in tn, i do not have the so called "liberal attitude" that you seem to think all yankees have. so before you start running your pie hole--dont speak for the yankees that you dont know ! everyone always says how nice the ppl in tennessee are, your attitude totally contradicts that !

Can I ask what city you were looking at the stats for? If you are referring to Memphis or Jackson, Yea, I can see this statement. If it is for just about any other city or town, that is a different story.
If you were looking at the city as a whole, refer to my first sentence for the reason.

If the great state of Tennessee gave Memphis to Mississippi, our education and crime numbers would skyrocket. As it is, they are not that bad, but Memphis really, really skews them.

Then there is the little matter of how we report our crime. Being honest folks, we don't lie about our stats. That's step one.

Second, we report every charge. EVERY charge. That means that if a cop arrests a guy for B&E and he also kicks the cop in the leg on the way to the cruiser, then he is charged with TWO crimes. Now cops love to pile on the charges, hoping that at least something sticks, so that's our stats.

Drive through Knoxville and tell me if you feel safe.
