I will be moving to TN this year.

I will either sell my business or open a TN office. My company is a Texas Corp and we are also registered as a "foreign" corp in CA, as I have an office and employees there as well as Texas.

If I open a TN office, I know I will need to register in some way. Does anyone know how TN handles out of State corporations? Any links that may help?

The Tennessee Department of State would be the primary government agency for registering a corporation. According to the type of business, you will also need to contact the Department of Revenue (especially if you do any kind of retail sales), as well as local agencies.

Perfect timing. I'm starting a business, too, but I already live here. Just so happen to have all this stuff open in my browser.

This will get you started. I actually read the regulation for out-of-state corporations, last night, but I skimmed it because it didn't pertain to me.

New, Small, & Minority Business Information - TN.gov

I want to add that the process has been very smooth in this state and fees are very low.

Hi hiknapster! The poster can also call the Secretary of States office and they will give him all sorts of information. He will also need to call the department of revenue as well for tax reporting requirements depending how his business is organized. I am in the process of starting a new small business as well and going through the same fact finding mission myself.

Oh! We are copying each other, again.

To those that don't know, we were born and raised very near each other, then lived in Fort Myers, Florida then moved to Tennessee. Oddly enough, we have never met!

All that info regarding the Secretary of State and the tax info, tax id number, etc. is all right on that page or on the website. Lots of info but very little red tape, cost and easy to understand.
