Shopping is okay in Crossville, but it is only an hour from the Turkey Creek area of Knoxville which has just about everything you would want. I live in Crossville and other than grocery shopping I do most of my shopping in Knoxville. We do have an outlet mall in Crossville, too.

I live in Crossville and it is a nice town. It is small and shopping is limited. The mall is okay, it's clean and there are a few stores there: Liz Claiborne, A couple of shoe stores, a kitcheware store, Vanity Fair, and there is a new clothing store, and a Dress Barn. There are a variety of grocery stores, Wed is senior day at Krogers. There are even a few good restaraunts. Cookeville is about 30 minutes away to the west and Knoxville is 30 minutes to the east. Temperatures are mild and the humidity stays pretty low except around August.
Most of the people are friendly, if they are not they'll usually just ignore you. People will actually turn around and talk to you when you are waiting in line. People seem to move slower. I have learned that this is not such a bad thing. There are also lots of churches to chose from and a few golf courses. There are also some good hiking trails around. The Cumberland State Park is beautiful.
There are even a few African Americans, not many, but a few. My neighbor is one and she seems perfectly normal.
Sale taxes are high even on food in TN, almost 10%, but property taxes are low. I have 3 parcels and my tangible tax together are about the same as one tax bill on my property I had in FL. Land is cheaper, but don't count on it staying that way for long.

I love Crossville
Crossville is a beautiful place to live. The weather is pretty mild in comparison to other places. Of course August is typical for a southern state. I have been 4-wheeler riding many many times here and I love it, especially in the mountains when there is mud As for blacks, more and more are moving in and the general population is fine with it. There are definite tensions with homosexuality. As for drugs, meth is growing strong but I moved here from Florida when I was in highschool and it doesn't compare. There are not people standing on the streets selling to kids. A few of the stores were mentioned already, but we also have a peebles and a goody's. I generally go 30 minutes west to Cookeville to shop or 45 minutes east to Knoxville. I also have wonderful Dr.'s for both myself, my husband and my children. Hope this helps.

Forgot to mention every so often you'll see a four wheeler whizing down the road. The wildlife management area is great for ATV's and it's huge, Coal Creek OHV park is an Hr. from here as well.

And if anybody is looking for a beautiful horse property in Crossville feel free to contact me. Ours is on the market.
This area is definitely suited for those that like outdoor activities like trail riding, hiking, hunting, riding ATV's etc. But within an hour you are at Turkey Creek in Knoxville and got access to every store you can think off, Olive Garden, Starbucks etc etc. But Crossville has pretty much everything you need for everyday life. Walmart, Lowes, Restaurants, three large grocery stores.

I have to. Trust me ....if you check out my website and look at my place you'll know just how hard that's going to be. Its a dream of a set up that I built. Horse property with an indoor arena! It was just perfect and absolutely beautiful. But my husband couldn't make his business work here so he has to go back to his main job with was working as an Illustrator, Graphic designer and for that he needs to be closer to a big city. We spend a lot of money and time in making it just right.... but I hope some horse person will buy it enjoy it.

Sorry to hear that things did not work out.
Moved up here last August and it's just beautiful. Now if I can put a muzzel on the bullfrogs,whip-o-wills, and yotes at night with the windows open.

If you go on websites for Crossville or retiring to Crossville, and request information, I promise you that you will receive a lot of good stuff in the mail over a number of weeks including a large package of information. I am not moving to Crossville but I give them an A+ for effort.
