Looking for a Place along I-40
Hi. I'm a single mother of a currently homeschooled daughter who's 8. Michigan's economy and unemployment rate that keeps on growing is making it impossible to find work here (been unemployeed for longer then I like now and even McDonald's where I live isn't hiring!)
I am looking to possibly move someplace along the I-40 area between Nashville and Knoxville.
Does anyone have suggestions on towns that would be best to look into? Seeing how there are major cities on both ends of the section I'm looking at, entertainment and shopping are not a must where we move. Semi-country living is what I'm looking for so we don't have to be right in town either.
The other place I was thinking about is Murfreesboro....
I've trained in Medical Transcription and can work in an office or from home. Willing to take other work also so MT is not my only option.
I've read many posts that talk about the cost of living being lower in TN which would be a BIG help from what we are used to here in Michigan where the heating bills alone are enough to put a person in the poor house these days....
I'm ready for mild winters and beautiful countryside....
Any replies are very much appreciated!

Hmmmm. CRMC has a PT (24 hours) medical transcription position open. Do you have hospital experience? CRMC is located in Cookeville, TN and is right along I-40.

You might want to seriously consider Cookeville, TN. I have lived here most of my, life and it is a great place to live. Being located almost exactly between Knoxville and Nashville, you get the best of both cities. The Smokey Mountains are east of us, and provides much entertainment in both Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.
Cookeville has great schools, low taxes, and affordable housing. If you are looking to buy a house, we have plenty of them for sale. Our town is a safe place in which to live. The weather is much milder than Michigan and the changing seasons are beautiful. Of course, the laid-back lifestyle is a plus. Most people are friendly.
Check us out.

Yes !!! Cookeville. If you send them a e-mail requesting relocation they will send you a very nice packet of information. But be fore warned you will also have every real estate and aluminum siding sales person sending you information. I tell every one to set up a bogus e-mail account. This way "YOU" get to talk to and reply to who and whom you want.

I also agree with the Cookeville suggestion. We moved here in August from WI, and we really love it! This last winter was soooo much better than last winter up north! We live about 5 miles outside of town, so we have the peacefulness of the country, but are just a few minutes from anything we need.
By the way, good for you for homeschooling while being a single parent - I know how hard that is! I was a single mom for about 11 years and ran a home daycare so I could stay home and homeschool my son. Not a lot of single parents tackle that, so you should be very proud of that accomplishment!
