Heading out to Tenn as soon as school is out in about another two weeks here in Fl. Can't wait to see TN! From what I been reading on here, it's a sight to behold! Some of the pictures are so beautiful, can't wait to see it!
The children are so anxious to "camp out" in the woods, LOL! Which leads me to the next question: Snakes....how bad are they? Are there a lot of them? Are they poisonous? And bears...are there any over there? Somebody, anybody!!

Where are you camping? It depends on the area for snakes. I have only seen 2 this year at my place, but my cousin is clearing and has been over run with copperheads and has heard some rattlers. Copperheads, rattlers and cotton mouth are the venomus snakes here. Copperheads probably being the most abundant but In populated areas they usually arent very bad.
If you are in Jamestown area, there is a remote possibility you might see a bear. Some have been reintroduced in the Big South Fork. There have been random sightings from that area all the way to Cookeville, but they are elusive and I havent know of any cases where bears have bothered humans in this area.

Second 2mares about the snakes and bears. Snakes really seem to vary area to area. I have seen only a couple of poisonous ones at my place in the years I've been here, but less than 2-3 miles away, there's a real concentration of rattlers.
Generally, the snakes are pretty shy, and the rattlers are at least polite enough to let you know they're around!
If you see a bear in the area, count yourself lucky. You probably won't, and if you do, what you'll most likely see is his backside disappearing into the brush.
It's a beautiful area. Hope you like it and it's a fit!

I agree with 2mares and skinem. It's highly unlikely you'll see any snakes at all much less poisonous snakes, and I can't even fathom what the odds would be that you'd see any bears.
I've been camping all over the state probably 100 times, from state parks, national parks, to primitive camping. I have never ever seen a snake or a bear while camping. But you should still take the usual precautions: keep all food locked up in a container that can't be opened except by humans, ESPECIALLY during the night as you sleep (and this includes garbage). This isn't for bears so much as for raccoons. You'd be surprised how wiley those little critters can be.
And be sure to bring bug spray.
Have a great trip!

Betsey,
I was just thinking you might be more worried about the ticks and chiggers. Make sure you buy or bring repellant, something with deet is best, and check the kids for ticks each day. The blood suckers have been bad the past few yrs.

there is a hospital in Jamestown
[quote=2mares;8492779]I think the closest hospital is in Crossville, then Livingston and Cookeville with Cookeville being the largest. Those are the ones Im familiar with.
/QUOTE]
There is actually a full fledged hospital in Jamestown, albeit it smallish. Here is a link:
Jamestown Regional Medical Center - New: CEO's Message.

Since 1960. It was originally called Fentress County General Hospital. Renamed Jamestown Regional.
