Question New Car Prices

Does anyone know if there is a big difference in the sale price of cars in TN as oppose to NJ. I know the tax is different 9.75(?) TN and 7% NJ
Thanks

I wouldn't think there would be a big difference. The price that dealers pay for each vehicle is fairly standard across the US. Of course, dealers also get all kinds of incentives but that's primarily due to number of vehicles they sale and that sort of thing.

Just a side note, if you plan on just buying a car and then moving to Tennessee that will be alright. I'm not sure about NJ, but cars from some northern states will be harder to resell here due to the heavy use of salt on the road "up there". It's less important now that it used to be but it can still be a factor.

Default new car purchase costs

I will need to but a car when I get to Chattanooga. Any idea what the costs are such as sales tax, registaration, annual taxes etc. In SC the vehicle sales tax was capped at a certain level. Is it here or not?

We had a discussion about this several pages back that has all the caps and such listed there. I am short on coffee yet this morning and can't recall the details but if you go back several pages of posts here, you can find it. It has a bunch of really good info about large ticket item purchases, including cars.
Hope that helps.

The Tennessee sales tax on cars is actually 8 percent, but that is still ridiculously high.
