Of all of the advantages / disadvantages of moving to TN, the biggest disadvantage that we can see is the tornadoes. I think we can somewhat avoid that danger, although possible almost anywhere, by looking to the Cumberland Plateau and east. I've seen a lot of nice homes and property in the Savannah and Henderson area but my biggest concern with these areas is due to what I feel is an increased possibility of tornadoes.
Am I correct in my thinking or (pardon the pun) all wet?

I am in MN (used to live in FL), thankfully we got only 4 inches, but just north of us, they got 10-12 inches of snow. I am not very fond of snow. Our highs are in the 30's this week. I can't wait to get away from this area, I can handle a little snow and couple of months of cold weather, but not 6-7 months of cold and snow. TN here I come!

Just want to say I'm so glad all of TN is ok! My cousin called me before everything hit and said "say a prayer for us!" So I did...and thankfully I haven't heard of much damage and certainly no deaths.
Hiknapster: See, you leave FL now have threats of tornadoes! It's just not perfect anywhere is it? Glad you're ok though. I'm kinda like MBMouse...I love thunderstorms unless they get a little too close for comfort!

And even the Cumberland Plateau isn't immune. They were saying on the news this morning that a small tornado hit Crab Orchard near Crossville.

Wow, I must really be out of it. I am in Arkansas and yesterday evening it got very windy and cooler, but that was it. Today is quite a bit cooler, but we are almost at 60 (yesterday was 85). I did not even realize that there was such bad weather going around. We must have been just south of the storm (I'm guessing). I'm now mad at myself for not watching the weather. I am so glad that everyone and everything is ok. Those storms can be pretty scary. I still have yet to see a tornado (haven't been in the south that long), but I am hoping that I can still say that 50 years from now! Any more bad weather suppose to be heading that way?

Good luck to you all. God be with you! I know what it's like I lived through hurricane Charley in Florida., although I beleive tornados are worse.

Does the sector of Knoxville, TN get hit by a lot of tornadoes? Is it very common? cause I was under the impression that it does not get hit that often. Just curious since I will be moving to that area from Florida...I will be leaving Hurricanes for Tornadoes.. scary thought..

I just talked with my dad (lives in S. Pittsbugh, TN) he said the storms last night sounded real bad but didn't do much.

A couple of small tornadoes apparently did touch down last night. As many as 40 structures (mainly mobile homes) were damaged or destroyed in Claiborne County, and a mobile home in Cumberland County was destroyed, too. The news this morning showed baseball-sized hail near Crossville.
So last night's storm was pretty severe in some areas. Even though I love thunderstorms (mbmouse and I must be kin!) I imagine they can be frightening experiences for those living in mobile homes.

Strange Weather!!!!
Good Morning everybody! Talk about some strange weather. Where I live up here in NH we got a foot of snow last night mixed with severe thunder and lightening. We have several 8 to 9 inch branches down in our back yard. One of them missed the house by mere inches. The snow is so heavy most of the remaining branches are bent to the ground. The electricity went out but it's back on now.One house near by got struck by lightening. Not very often (almost never) do we get a major snowstorm mixed with a massive thunder and lightening storm. All of this in April. To make matters worse, we just got back from 4 days in Tennessee where the weather was warm and the country side was green. Our yard was pretty much bare when we got home. Oh well, that's New England, if you don't like the weather wait 5 minutes, it'll change
