Anyone using Spirit Broadband?
The area just south of Crossville is serviced by Spirit Broadband for cable TV, Internet, and now maybe telephone. We had subscribed to them for TV and Internet last summer and put it on "vacation" mode when we left for the winter. I had called twice and left msgs about using the vacation mode and got no callbacks so I wrote them a letter requesting it. The letter worked as the service was stopped, but no statement from them has ever been received showing the status of our account. Their website is poor as there is no way to email them to ask questions, and they don't do a good job of returning calls. I think their bundle package may be the best way to go since they have the vacation mode which doesn't cost any monthly fee while gone. Frontier, the other option for phone and Internet, doesn't offer any vacation rates, either pay the whole bill or disconnect. With the attitude of "take it or leave it" its a shame to need to do business with them.
I was wondering if anyone here is in Spirit Broadband's service area and using their "bundle" of 3 services. If so, what extra charges are there for equipment needed to connect your phone to the cable? Lastly, has it worked as good as you had hoped?

Everyone I know that uses Spirit is happy with them... Charter and possibly Volfirst service that area as well. So you have options beyond Spirit or Frontier. YOU DO NOT WANT FRONTIER.

A patient of mine recommended Spirit Broadband and I'd been looking for faster internet than I was getting from Frontier. I switched. The next time I saw that same patient she told me that the customer service was so bad with Spirit that she'd switched back to Frontier. I'm now having the same issues. The internet connection is fast but you have to be fast too-in order to catch it working. I called on a Wednesday and after waiting 20 minutes reached someone who told me the earliest they could come out was Monday. No one came Monday. Someone came Tuesday but I hadn't waited into the next afternoon for them to show. I called back. They'd come Wednesday. They didn't. I'm in limbo now...still haven't seen a service person. The person I did talk to was geared up for a fight when I called and accused me of yelling before I could even get my story told, etc. I hope they get it together because when it works, it's good.

After a long time and many frustrations trying to reach Spirit Broadband via phone and Internet I found out that there is an office in Crossville. Its not shown in any phone book or online. I went there and talked to the only person I found. I started explaining all the problems I was having just trying to start service again. He made a phone call, put me on the phone to their main office and I was scheduled for install the next day. After all was done he gave me his business card and said to call him on his cell phone if I had any more problems. He is the president of the company.
So now we have the bundle of cable TV, Internet and phone with unlimited long distance. Last year I used my own modem but now need a modem that supports phone (voice over IP) so am renting it.
Today I visited the office again for an explanation of the features of the phone service. Found out that I can pay the bill at US Bank instead of mailing it in. Something else they never told me.
d2davis, I think their customer service is way understaffed as I was always told to leave a msg (and then hope they call back when you're home). The last time I tried to contact them I kept hanging up if told to leave a msg and after about 6 trys I was finally put in the que and waited about 20 minutes for service. Also they seem to have a large turnover with the techs, was told it's a personality conflict with the company president. Hope they get better as I don't really want to go to Frontier. I did email Volfirst and they are not servicing my area. If they ever do, I'll try them.
Good Luck

Had it a month & I couldn't be happier with my bundle. I did upgrade to the fastest internet they offered. (10meg) I've had NO prob with any of it except ONE phone call where it acted like a cell with the signal commin and goin. Weird but haven't expierenced it again. Was worried as the only reviews I had found were 2 neg ones. Did have to pay for them to install but there was NO equipment needed and NO remote or box from them either. KEWL. I do kinda miss being able to scroll my Direct TV menue but for the price I'll suffer THAT and deal with it scrolling itself. Typical cable TV guide that we've ALL seen. If you want wirelss you'll have to have a router but I had that with Frontier too I'm SO glad to be rid of THEM !!! Would you believe they wouldn't disconnect me from their system for over 2 wks and I HAVE to pay for THAT ugh Well they got me for the LAST time. humph stomping off but in Victory Thank YOU Spirit !!!!

I just switched back to Frontier from Spirit. Had Spirit 8 months. Of that time went 7 weeks with no service. They rarely answer the phone, won't return messages. When they do answer the phone they want to walk you through the same call every time-even if you've had the same problem for 3 weeks. They won't give you the time they are sending a service person-just a day. The service person NEVER comes on the day they say he will. He usually comes the next day and leaves a note or voice mail saying he came but you weren't home. There are never any supervisors to speak with and no way to contact them by e-mail.
The cost is about the same for both (difference less than $1). Spirit is faster (when it works) for downloading but you won't notice any other differences in speed. They both go out when it rains but Frontier will come out and fix the problem promptly and maintain communication.
By the way-Frontier guy, you left your jacket at my house on Wednesday Nov. 25 just before eleven am.

You will always have trouble w/ Spirit broadband. They just take Charters internet service and Direct TVs satellite signals and pipe them out onto a cable network thats been in need of an upgrade for years. We were out of service Memorial day weekend and couldn't contact anyone to get it repaired.
Have since switched to Dish network and Frontier for the internet.Frontier's not perfect, but at least it works.
