This for me is as much a sign as any as for some reason, they seemed reluctant to show themselves this year. I could swear I have seen bats as early as middle to late April before.

This thread has no real direction other than I would be curious as to hear if folks have their gardens in full swing? With the wet Spring, I lost about half of my stuff from just be inundated by some really harsh and lasting rain. However seeds are pretty cheap and just one more excuse to get out and play in the dirt.

Happy summer folks!
I was away for some time in May and when I returned all of the baby birds and squirrels had been born and are flying or running around. Some of the Carolina chickadee babies are as small as half of my thumb. The little finches are flitting around in groups, everywhere. There are a pair of robins I thought was a couple because one robin follows the other around and peeps incessantly (I thought it was nagging) in the other robin's face but I found out the little loudmouth peeper was a junior not a spouse. I see them every day. Baby squirrels (scrawny little tails) are chasing each other up and down trees and I'm seeing a few chipmunks. I think I've even seen grackle juniors because they are smaller than the adults. I've seen all of this from my apartment balcony over the last two and a half weeks. There are pink plants/shrubs below in bloom (little clustered pink flowers) but I don't know what they are. I'll tell you what I have not seen - butterflies. When is butterfly season? Last year I didn't notice them until September.

I have been seeing butterflies and there was a luna moth on my kitchen door. I have been seeing the lizards again too. They had about disappeared when I got the cats, but are back this yr.

LOTS of butterflies in our wildflower garden.

I have tomatoes, peppers, cukes, squash, cantaloupe and eggplant coming along very nicely. Also started an herb and perennial flower garden.

The squirrel superhighway that circles our yard, high above, is very busy!

Wednesday, the power went out so we all squished into the tent. When we first lived in it, four years ago, we didn't have the big dog. He's a good hugger, though, so we all fit!
