You can go to www.greatschools.net where schools are rated. Sprin Hill overall is a 2/5 stars which is poor. After reading parent reviews, there seems to be major issues on the dresscode, the staff enforcing "stupid rules" like "no drinks allowed outside because they could have liquor", and a big one that isn't going over well is the students having to apparently carry around books and coats all day.
Some rate it good (3 stars at most), but few do.
When you log onto this site, you can also compare this school to others which is very helpful. I have used this site for years to check up on things, stats, opinions, experiences, and found it to be very reliable. My kids don't go there - are you planning on a move?
Spring Hill seems to have quite and issue with the principle and staff in general. Leadership I guess, although some teachers (of course) are excellent. Raising kids today is very challenging as we all know - but finding good role models for them (and being a GREAT one yourself) is very, very important. Good luck and I hope the site helps you and your child(ren).

Schools in Spring Hill and Independence High School
Schools in Springhill are average. What is most distressing about Springhill is the ability to get in and out of that city. There are only two options to get in and out. Traveling to the high school from Thompsons Station which was about 3 miles took my son 45minutes to an hour each morning. Morning commuters will say they leave an hour to an hour and a half before they have to be at their jobs just to get there on time. With the size of Spring Hill and the growth, there seems to be NO IMMEDIATE plans to help with this congestion. My son asked me one day what happens if everyone had to exit Spring Hill in an emergency? I shuttered at the thought.
Secondly, on the schools . . any school in Williamston County what one needs to know is that this is a whole new world if you are not from Tennessee!!!!!!! I am so disappointed in the choice I made to move here but I am more hurt at what my children have to go through at the rules and regulations end of school policy. What you need to know is that if your child for ANY REASON has more than 10 excused absences for a year AT ANY GRADE LEVEL you then become eligible for TRUANCY!! No kidding. I have been there and done that and it is a very degrading and unfortunate situation for any child to be in. My children were there under serious medical conditions and I had to jump through major hoops and the kids wre placed on 6-9 months probation and EVERY absence had to be documented. Don't get me wrong there are plenty of children that do belong in the truancy situation but honestly the times I sat in the courtroom I shook my head in disbelief. The parents and single parent families struggling with personal issues only have it made worse for them. For those of us that have had financial, personal and issues that have negatively had an impact on our family situation can relate sometimes that things at home don't run as smooth as they should and the children do get caught up in it. Children too need mental health days and sometimes cannot handle their day to day situations or parents transportation or whatever causes an absence for the child. The family once it enters into the truancy courts becomes inundated with CPS workers, counseling, classes, anything they think can HELP the family. What they don't understand is that peoples plates are already TOO full and they can't complete their duties that their daily routine requires. Now they have to comply and fit in additional needs and costs that they can't afford. I understand the idea behind the courts and I do think it can be a good tool but the "reality" of the days considered truant are unrelaistic in today's society and especially now with the economy and the new struggles that families face. We need to heal and work through these things at home, not in front of the court systems. People know there are programs out there if they choose to utilize them and can make them fit into their daily routine if they beleive they will help their situation. Honestly, Williamston County Courts, you are hurting the families you are trying to help.
Last note, Independence High School would be my last choice of High School in WIlliamston County. I had a child there for two years and it was pure frustration. He had an IEP and the administration WAS NOT informed or educated enough to respond to the needs of the child. After failing him the first year, I was not even told about the failures or sent a report card home because he owed money for a book. By the time I found out, crdit recovery and summer school was well under way and he missed the opportunity to make anything up. This last year has not been muc better and no imporvement. Administration seems more concerned with keeping up its A+ image and status instead of helping those children that need help. I am NOT sending my child there this year and made a concerted effort to move out of Thompson Station which was a blessing in itself. We have moved to Franklin and I would strongly suggest anyone that is making a consideration to area, do not pick Spring HIll or Thompsons Station area! Plus, it's far too close to Slumbia (Columbia).

Huh? This is the Tennessee forum. The thread is about Spring Hill, Tennessee, not Spring Hill, Florida.
