Dickson? What's your opinion?
I'm trying to narrow down the list of cities I want to visit when I go see my daughter in May. I'm hoping to be living in TN by the end of the year if all goes well. Dickson has some condos that are pretty affordable and it looks like a straight shot up to Clarksville, where my daughters family live, but close enough to Nashville so I have that job market to search in.
So, what do you think about Dickson?

It's small, very rural, not well-situated for an easy commute into Nashville. Not that it'snot done, just that it wouldn't be at all convenient.
Pretty country, though!

I don't know your situation, so it's hard to say whether it's right for you. To me, it would be a poor trade-off as far as location itself is concerned. It's not really that convenient to Clarksville (Highway 48 isn't a bad road, but it's not an expressway either; lots of hills and curves). And, as akm4 mentioned, it's also not that convenient to Nashville. Of course, some people commute back and forth from Dickson to either Clarksville or Nashville daily.
Just my opinion, but somewhere in between Clarksville and Nashville would seem like a better choice.
I agree with akm4 that there is some pretty country around that area; and also, Montgomery Bell State Park is nearby. It would be a fun place to take the grandkids if you have any.

charlotte would be a better bet about 35-40 minutes to nashville and if you go through ashland city about 40 minutes to downtown nashville depending on where you chose to live. also ashland city is a nice place and about 40 minutes to clarksville i do believe.. all in all i would say either of those 2 places would put you in smaller town living with the convience of larger town work economy within an hour drive.

I was born in Dickson, traveled many places and wanted to come back to dickson. I think it is a great place to live, many people just come through and decide they like it and move here. I know because of personal contacts with some. It is a great commute to Nashville, I live near the Interstate and it takes 30 minutes or less to Bellevue...interstate is great and 3 exits into Dickson, to get to Clarksville, true the highway is crooked (so not exactly a straight shot) and sometimes narrow but beautiful drive, we are retired military so we do travel that way to Ft Campbell for services. Road work is beginning to straighten out some of the bad curves in Cumberland Furnace area which will help. I have lived in Clarksville and did not care for it. True Charlotte is nice too, about 10miles closer from my house, from there on is rural if you like that. Dickson has everything to offer unless you like big dept stores, we have Goodys, naturally Wallmart, Peebles a nice hometown store Fussells, but if you need more, the drive to Nashville (about 40 miles all way to downtown) is nice. People in Dickson are friendly. I think Dickson has more pluses than minuses, so please come take a look. See Rhonda at the Chamber of Commerce, she will be of great help and a great personality.

If you decide you want to look to buy in Dickson, see Elmer Dunn at Crylke off exit 172. He would be most helpful.

I just started working for a healthcare company that has another affiliated office in Nashville, near HG Hill Park on Charlotte Pike, right off of 40, I guess you could consider that West Meade? Anyway, the Dickson area is looking more and more promising, and a fairly good commute to that office.
I'll have to pick a property on realtor.com and just do a MapQuest to get an idea, but does anyone have an idea of the commute to that area?
blessings, Shen
